DO NOT put return address!!! (says my counselor, cuz it's not suppose to go back to you)

Some of you suggested giving a teacher a bullet list of things you'd like them to include... can someone provide examples? I wouldn't want to sound overly cocky...

I mean...

"1. Please mention my intelligent and enlightening comments in class."

I have the same question as tetrisfan:

If you're applying to many common app schools, can your teachers just write one set of recs which you can photocopy?

Suggest that you give stamped envelopes with addresses for each school to the teachers. That way they can mail the recs and sign across the flap so the schools know that you have not vetted the recs.

Nvm, i read on the form that copies are allowed.

Is there such a thing as sending in the recommendation too early?

lol same question here
one of my teacher jsut said he'll sent no later than the first or second week of october. that's fine for EA, but he is also sending those for RD too! It should be okay right?

I already put return addresses on all my envelopes, the only purpose being to ensure they won't get lost in the mail...is this an extreme issue? If I get it back, that means that the college never got it in the first place, right? And I can just get my teacher to stick it in another signed envelope...?

I agree with commodore. The reasons that a return address is needed is because:
a) They know who the letter came from
b) If the letter is lost in the mail, they can return it to you.

My counselor said NOT to fill the return address. 1 . It should not be your address. yes it is part of your application, but you didn't write that part. (if it get lost, it shouldn't be returned to you, should be returned to whoever wrote it) Let the teacher fill out the return address with wtv they see fit. 2. Schools generally have stamps that can be used for envelopes with logo, address . etc on it.

Yes there needs to be a return address, You just aren't the person writing it.

I believe that we should add our school's address and teachers name on it. How will admissions know that it is our recommendation without a name or anything on it ?

Here it was my teacher emailed me.

"I would probably put your own address on the return, so that if there is a
problem with the mail, it will be returned to you and not be lost. This way you
would know that it would have to be resent. I don't always get mail right away at work, so I'd feel better if you do that."

colleges know its yours cuz the forms have your name, DOB, SSN etc on it.

and as I said that my school's college counselor (who deals with lots of private schools and students) said it should be left blank for the teachers, and never the student's own home address since the letter is not suppose to be seen by student at all, thus should not be directed to the student.
You should as your college counselor since teachers aren't always experience with this kind of stuff and don't know what the colleges want.

anyways
Can Recs be sent TOO early? for a lot of common app schools, the letter of recommendation will reach the school before I submit any part of the application, would that cause a problem?

my Ds school puts the school address in the corner, because most students don't see the recommendations, and if it gets returned to the student, and it isn't brllliant, it could make someone disappointed

Can teachers send their recommendations online?

Should I provide the teachers with test scores like SAT, SAT II and APs ?

Is it ok to ask a teacher for a recommendation in September of senior year if you plan on applying early? I asked one teacher who enthusiastically said she would write me one, but one teacher I asked has not responded and since school is over, I think I may have to ask a different teacher in the fall. Would this still give the teacher enough time?

Yes, your teacher still has around two months, which should be plenty of time.

^^Depends, though: if you are applying rolling early admission, you'll probably want your app complete earlier than 2 months after school starts. You can certainly ask a teacher at the start of the year, just be sure to include in your inquiry the fact that you are applying early and need all your materials by such and such date. That way, if the teacher cannot accommodate your schedule for whatever reason, he/she can say so.
