Supply Chain Management Major Question

Hey everyone!

I recently decided that I will concentrate in Supply Chain Management for my major in Business Administration!
However, I am able to declare a dual concentration in Business Administration or simply declare a minor. My question is which of the following pairs do you all think would provide a Supply Chain employee with more useful skills/would make him more marketable on the job hunt?

Dual SCM and Management Information Systems : I think this would provide me with good technical skills and a nice understanding of computer programming to accent the SCM concentration. I also think it would make me more marketable but have not found evidence to confirm this (it’s just a gut feeling). One con is that I may struggle slightly with some of the more difficult programming topics since it does not come as natural to me as other topics.

Dual SCM and Finance: I think Finance is interesting and would provide useful knowledge from the SCM perspective, and I do like numbers a lot.

SCM and Industrial Engineering Minor: I think Industrial Engineering is really cool and is interesting, plus it seems to be very relevant to SCM. I have often heard that IE majors that go the supply chain route can compete with SCM majors for jobs, so I thought this may make me more marketable. Also, I am interested in the efficiency & lean focus of IE and think that this would be useful.

Any opinions would be really helpful!
Thanks everyone!

Any of the three would be fine and I would say the three areas you’re considering are the best to pair with SCM if you decide to do so. With regard to IE’s competing with SCM majors for jobs, there were always at least a handful of IE’s at my interviews but I’ve had no problem getting offers with “only” an SCM major. Frankly the only advantage IE’s have is taking more quant courses, but there is a lot more to supply chain management than crunching numbers.

Hey Spartan, thanks for the response! That’s good to know that the IE’s arent too much of an issue. I could see how the quantitative aspect of IE would definitely be an advantage though. All good stuff to know.
