Surfing questions?

ok so me and my roommate are big time boarders and really want to bring up our nine foot boards. How do students get their boards to the surf, I heard that boards are not allowed on the shuttle so could one rent a zip car and bring it in? Are there different size zip cars one can rent, do any include roof racks? If anyone has any suggestions about how to get out boards to the beach it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure students have brought boards of this size in the past. My other question is where do the surfers of UCSC keep their boards when not using them, do they just keep them in their rooms? I heard that there is an outside storage area where one may pit their boards like surf lockers or something. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on putting my board under my bed, but I ride a shortboard.

I’ve seen at Cowell some sort of wooden outdoor locker-like things a lot of people cram bikes into, but they’re out in the open and get really dirty, and while I can’t convey exactly what they are, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable leaving a valuable surfboard inside. I’m not sure they close, or even have doors, or lock. Buses do NOT allow you to take boards in them, so you’ve got a bit of a problem there. There may be some other shuttle, but I do not know of it.

It just seems there would be many surfers with a similar situation attending SC and there must be some way they get their boards to the beach and a place to keep them

FYI I went out at Pleasure Point today, one of the local spots at SC. Cool little spot, waves were nicely shaped but small today and there was a bit of wait between waves. Hardly any crowds, about 8 other people out but spread out so you were only competing with a few others.

It was cold but manageable. That said, I might have to get a better wetsuit for winter because I imagine it’s gonna get bloody cold.
