Surgery! (i'm scared)

wow so many people have had surgery!
My surgery is on dec1 so it'll be a week from now i think

I'm not sure if I'm going to be under general anaesthesia or sleep or whatver.. I thouught that they were the same thing lol

ughhh i can't stand mouth pain. Especially when they tightin my braces wires.. that pain that lasts for 3-4 days... This is going to be much worse..

do they inject fluid into the body or is it like a gas mask?

thanks for the reassurances :)

Its a fluid, basically once its injected about 2-3 seconds later your out, then they will likely intubate you, since its a mouth surgery, that will leave your throat a little bit sore. The mask is put on also with its own little mix of things to make you sleep, that smells kinda sweet.

Banedon - cute story! Awwwww...

Few weeks back I had my appendix removed. :D It was general anesthetic, with the mask over the mouth. When I woke up, it was on the operation table and I was pretty groggy and they lifted up in the "blanket stretcher" and out the theater onto my post-op bed. Dumped, actually. grr I didn't know the time. And if you need to pee and you can't move, it's damn uncomfortable! :D

I did throw up, but only the day after the operation and after I drank some tea. It actually made me feel better. (The hospital didn't have an elevator so I had to walk down two flights of stars, across the lobby/receptionist area in my op clothes to the other side of the hospital and up another two flight of stairs. It's pretty insane and bad planning! I threw up while walking...it was...fun?)

I've had other surgeries, always with general anesthetic. Though I once woke a little early...that was a little uncomfortable. :| Especially since it was cold and I was partially nude. grimace The theater's so cold...

You'll do fine, I'm sure. December 1st, eh? If I remember, I'll send a little good luck wish in the air or something. :D I won't say "good luck" cause you won't need it. But I do wish you a speedy recovery! Go easy on the food afterwards!

(Parents never got my braces so I don't know what mouth pain feels like besides a toothache so I'm hoping it won't hamper you too much!)

hahahhahaha thanks izzy
it would be pretty difficult to pee if you cantmove your legs and stuff..

well i got good and bad news. The good news is that my orthodontist said that my teeth aren't ready yet because i still have parts to do at the back of my mouth.

The bad news is that the surgery will be postponed until march which is during the start of our school year. which will be crappy because i hate missing out on school work and catching up.
And after the surgery, i have to have braces on for 6 months. and if i do have it in march, I'll have to have my braces on for my senior ball in june!! :(:(
And if it's the surgery's on april, i won't be able to study for my SATs in the 2 week school break.

And since I thought i'd have my surgery in december, I layed off my sATs in december/january. So now, I have to rush study for it in Jan.

UGhhh the orthodontist ruined my whole 2006 year lol

Thanks all for the reasurences and I'll revive this thread up after i get my surgery :)

I had a fairly big operation a few years ago. The anesthesia itself isn't bad at all (it's actually kind of nice going to sleep, but you feel really out of it when you wake up) but it took them a good three hours to get an IV in my veins. After ever person with a nrusing or medical liscence tried, they finally gave up and gave me the preemie IV, putting in a bigger one once I got to sleep. But I had really terrible veins, and I had been fasting, so that won't happen to you (it'd never happened to anyone they'd had before), but it does make a good story.

After my surgery (on my hip), though, I was the headstrong idiot I usually am and refused any painkillers, so when those that they'd given me during surgery wore off, I was in a whole lot of pain. The pain from my surgery won't ever really go away, but it's really caused by the injury, not the surgery itself -- at least now I can walk. So my best advice -- take the painkillers and be much happier.
