Surprised you were rejected, wait listed, accepted, 2021

surprised about being accepted to Rice
surprised ( :frowning: ) about a waitlist at Notre Dame

Surprised to be accepted at Amherst after a rejection at JHU,Williams, Pomona, and WashU… lmao…

Surprised about getting rejected or waitlisted from like 5 schools that I was sure I’d get into, some of which seemed to be courting me. (Too lazy to list them, sorry :stuck_out_tongue: but the waitlist was Brandeis)

hey friends i’m back! surprised to get merit from brandeis and waitlisted at georgetown (both good-surprised)

@acron611 Ecstatic-surprised to get into Boston College with a 29 ACT, too! Sad and [only somewhat] surprised to be rejected at University of Florida and Davidson (showed a lot of interest and “fit like a glove” as someone above mentioned). Happy-surprised to be WL at Smith and Wake Forest (after the crazy regular decision cycle they had this year after introducing ED2), but also pretty sad because I love both.

Unless Duke turns out to be the biggest surprise of my life tomorrow, #bc2021!

surprised/sad to get waitlisted Vanderbilt I was pretty sure id get in

Surprised nephew was rejected from Bucknell- I thought he’d at least get waitlisted :frowning:

Surprised I was rejected from Rhodes College, I’m way above their stats but I expressed 00000 interest.
Surprised I was accepted into Wake Forest

@hungrihippo , the acceptance rate at Vanderbilt is 10%. Not trying to be mean, I am genuinely wondering what made you sure you would get in? Are you a URM legacy or hooked with great stats?

@Lindagaf my school sends a lot of students to Vanderbilt, and I was well above the stats for accepted students FROM MY SCHOOL, plus I had a relative close to AO department who personally wrote a letter of rec. I know its 10% but I thought the letter of rec would def be a plus (and other students in my school w lower stats like 32-33 ACT and 3.75 GPA got in)

My daughter’s acceptances fell just about where I expected.
Accepted at 7 schools
Rejected UVA, Rice, William and Mary (disappointed but not surprised)
But, after those rejections was surprised to make the wait list at wake.

If only all those rejections (she sees wake as a rejection) would have been mixed in with the rest instead of one after the other over the last week.

Thanks for explaining @hungrihippo . I think you have a lot of other great choices, so be excited about those. You can never tell who will get into those schools, and who won’t. It’s the nature of the beast. Good luck!

@coffee-and-cramming, I would definitely ask Wellesley why they rejected you after a likely letter. That’s pretty much unheard of, unless it was disclosed that you did something dishonest. I’d be wondering if it was a mistake. Schools do make mistakes like this.

I AM CRYING RIGHT NOW. I AM SO SSSUUURRRPPPRRRIIISSSEEEDDD TO HAVE ALSO GOTTEN INTO UC BERKELEY (Acceptances: UCLA, UCSB, UCI, Cal Poly SLO). This is surreal, I’m in a state of shock. This is the best day of my life although I was also simultaneously rejected from 3 private schools (Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia). BUT WHY SHOULD I CARE, I GOT INTO MY DREAM SCHOOL. I’m sorry you guys for being this crazy about it, but i’m simply so stunned. I had crappy sat and act scores compared to the average for the school, but my essays were bomb. I’m still crying, I freaked out a kid in the street by screaming. Oh well.

@judithapc – So happy for you, congrats!! Go Bears! (Cal '88, M.L.I.S.)

I NOT ONLY GOT INTO NORTHWESTERN BUT ALSO ALMOST EVERY COLLEGE ON MY LIST!
LIKE BOSTON U WAS WHERE I SET MY MATCH

I was accepted at Northwestern, Emerson, Boston University, UMich, BROWN, GWU, American, Occidental, Berkeley, NYU

Waitlisted at USC and UCLA

I literally can’t decide at all at this point

Surprised to get into Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. (Like what I am a simple girl what)
Also received admission to Brown, Dartmouth, UPenn, Cornell, Columbia, and UChicago.
Denied from Princeton, WashU, and Vanderbilt.

I have a tough decision but I’m so happy about it.

It would be helpful if all you wonderful people would include your stats.

So, I am surprised that my son got into every school he applied (for engineering) except one in which he was wait listed. It means that good choices were made. I didn’t get on College Confidential until after he applied so after hearing about reaches and safeties after the fact, I realize that he chose well.

Virginia Tech - accepted
RIT - accepted
WVU - accepted
Grove City - accepted
Penn State - accepted
Geneva - accepted
CWRU - wait listed

SAT 1400 (760 math) 3.8 GPA

Makes its harder to choose.

So refreshing to see a realistic group of choices, MSMead! Congrats to your son.
