Hello everyone. I received my letter in the mail this past week. I was surprised to see that I was waitlisted. I do admit that I might of overestimated myself, but I really though I would get in and I thought I would almsot definately go to Lehigh if I get in.

I applied to the College of Business and Economics with these stats:

Stats:
SAT: M-700 V-680 W-730
ACT:na
SAT Subject Tests: PHYSICS-570; MATH I- 630
GPA, Class Rank/Size: 1/110
APs / other stats:History-4 (PHYS, ENG, STATS as well but not tested yet)
Major awards/ECs: NHS President, VP Spanish NHS, SCA Secretary, Drama Club President, Peer Ministry Coordinator, MC of school's open mic nights; job for the past 4 years; Musical Theater (leads in play for 3 years); many awards at various competitions for performing arts; I basically run my school as a senior (hope that doesn't sound too cocky); Theater in general0 very actively involved all 4 years; loads of community service, specifically working with foster children from extreme household situations; many other clubs throughout high school years; actively involved in many retreats in the area where I was placed in leadership postions whcih are very competitive in my area

Essays: I thought they were good. My common app was dealt with my involvment in theater and how it helped me overcome my shyness and turned me into a leader and how that is good for business
Teacher Recs: they like me
Counselor Rec: she loves me, knows me well
Interview: na
Hook (if any): all of my leadership; diversity with a Business major, and keen interest for and active involvment in the Performing Arts and vocal performance

Location (State or Country): NJ
School: Small but very competitive Private
Ethnicity & Gender:White Male
Major strength/weakness:Leadership, GPA, rank, good SATS, poor SAT IIs

Due you see any gaps? Is the College of Bussiness harder to get into then I thought? I plan on accepting my waitlist position. I will be writing a letter that expresses my continued and sincere interest in the school, as well as sending a letter of reccomendation from an Alum who I know. Any further advice for the waitlist process?

Feel free to comment on my situation. I am particularly bummed out. Chances are I would have gone to Lehigh if accepted. Aso please post any similar wait list situations. Thanks for listening.

Just to add to the above comment, my GPA is 4.45 out of 5 (obviosly) and another EC I failed to mention was my involvment in a week-long business seminar over the summer which was a good intro to business for aspiring highschool business men and women.

i feel the same way. I was kinda shocked. Of course, I'm more shocked you didn't get in. I had way less ECs. You're like SUPER involved.

The fact that everyone thought I was gonna get in, even the people who didn't think they were gonna get in from my school that did end up getting in over me, and that I didn't made me upset. I applied for business too. Who knows?

I think that writing a letter showing how much you wanna go there is great...and the letter of recommendation sounds good too. As long as you don't BOTHER the heck out of them. Since Lehigh's all about interest, maybe you can visit again? Try and talk to some admission people there? Like set up a meeting with someone I mean? You could try that.

I want to know how many people got waitlisted along with us.

Thanks for the advice, dana. In your case, I agree it doesn't help to hear that otehr kids from your school got in over you. It must be very annoying. Are you accepting a waitlsit position?

hmm well I accepted it and sent in the little card thing the day after I got my waitlist letter.

I don't know what I'm gonna do yet. I'm kind of thinking it's a slim chance of getting i on off the waitlist for me. I don't think you'll have a problem. I almost wanna storm over there for you and just be like "HOW COULD YOU NOT LET THIS KID IN? YOU'D BE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM!"

After the girl that got in kind of rubbing it in my face left a sour taste in my mouth if you know what I mean. LOL like she totally kept it quiet the next day then after that it was like "well, Dana's fine so YEAH WOO YAY LEHIGH!" I couldn't help but laugh at that.

Great profile. Only weakness appears to be your SAT II scores, especially the 630 in Math I after scoring 700 on the SAT I Math section. The 570 in Physics also stands out. It is just a very difficult year for college applicants. Did you apply ED/EA to any school?

as i "cruise" the threads( and you all should too, to feel better) it's scarey and clear that the warnings about competition and huge numbers of applicants are coming to pass. there are tons of waitlist threads, all making no sense in terms of the individual stats. add to that the push for URMs and the move away from the typical white female(hardest hit) and male, and this is what you've got!
Erunerum~ i don't think it has a THING to do with you! and SAT IIs are just for placement, unless you were IDENTICAL to someone who outscored you on a II. what school in NJ?

Yea Dana, I feel for you. And thanks for the comment. Icy, yea I realiaze that was my weakness, i thought they were only used for placement but oh well i guess. And College mom, I do See the other threads, it is kind of calming to some extent. I attend a small catholic highs school oin Northern NJ with about 500 other kids. I didn't apply ED/EA anywhere else. I applied to Bucknell, TCNJ, Carnegie Mellon, and UPenn's Wharton. I got into Bucknell and TCNJ, was priority waitlisted at Carnegie, and rejected at Wharton. Sno now comes the stress of dealing with these two wiatlsit situations, both schools which I would love to attend

OMG i got waitlisted at two schools I really want to go to too. You are secretly my long lost twin from northern jersey hahaha. Probably more northern than me. Well it's good you got into Bucknell; I actually regret not applying there.

I was accepted into Lehigh as regular admission.
Here is my scores and stuff if your intrested:
SAT: 2090 750 math, 650 CR, 690W
ACT: N/a
SATII: French w/ listening: 800 MathII: 720 Physics:580
Class rank: top 20% in class of 400ish
average gpa: 3.7/4.8 (Thats near a B+, I think)
AP classes taken/currently being taken: AP French/AP Calc AB/AP Physics/AP US history
AP tests taken: none yet
EC: Captain of school's first Robotic team, work part time at a non-profit org., french club

I was waitlisted and I called admissions today and they told me that last year they eventually accepted 70 people from the waitlist and one of my college books said there were around 700 people on the list. Just thought some of you would be interested in that.

I was WAITLISTED as well. Pretty weird... I applied to the BA/MD Program with Drexel Medical School, and Lehigh forwarded my application to Drexel Med. I was even contacted by Drexel Med School to go there for an interview. Here are my stats:

SAT: 760V 780M 750W
SATII: 800 MathII, 780 USHist, 770 Chem, 760 BioM
GPA: 4.425W
Rank: about top 2.5% in a class of 760 students (you do the math)
Classes: took all honors classes in freshman and sophomore year, Took 8 AP Classes overall, got 5s in all the APs I took
School Activities: Varsity Boys Tennis since freshman year, State-level Orchestras, Yearbook Editor, part of NHS and Math Honor Society, active in Key Club
ECs: Active volunteer at a Rescue Squad, very active in my church (taught Sunday school several times, led small groups at the youth group, led small groups at a summer camp), more state-level orchestras, placed at several tennis tournaments, took part in a mini-medical school at UMDNJ-RobertWood, participated at the NYLF-Med (i know this isn't much, but it shows my interest in med)
Med Exposure: my uncle is a cardiothoracic surgeon, my mom is a RN (mentioned it in 1 or 2 essays)
Essays: mostly wrote about my experiences at the Rescue Squad, also wrote about some personal experiences that affected me, i got my essays reviewed by a friend who went to princeton and is now in med school, he had also helped review the essays of another friend who is currently in the Rice/Baylor program
Recs: didn't read them, but from what i heard at interviews, my teachers really liked me

Not to be cocky or anything, but I thought I was going to get in... whatever. Weird stuff...

eraser....it is probably because you were "too good" for lehigh. the admissions office probably didnt think you would matriculate. did you show interest?

waitlisted...

m- 750
cr- 670
w- 700

i'm depositing at u.miami which sounds like a great fit for me but i do believe lehigh's name carries more weight... the only thing that makes me nervous about lehigh is that it is sort of in the middle of nowhere.. pursue lehigh's waitlist?

Well, long story short after talking with my guidance councelor who then spoke with the co-director of admissions, I was informed that I was waitlisted due to my "apparent" lack of interest in the school (as shown per my application. I spoke with the co-director personally and demonstrated my sincer interest in the school and she told me some thigns that blew my mind about my being waitlisted-- things like due to the quality of your application, we believed that you were striving for otehr options higher then lehigh. But i made my case, and we'll see what happens.

Does anyone know when they start rolling out waitlist acceptances?

as far as those considered "too good" for a school, you're talking the infamous TUFTS SYNDROME(see CC threads on this.) and yes, clear passion/interest in the school is crucial.

Wow, I didn't know Lehigh was this harsh
Regular Admission

I got in with these stats
SAT: 600V 750 M 710 W
SAT II: 600 Italian 630 US History 770 Match II
Class Rank: About 18/180
APs: 3 last year, 6 this year

White Male

Teacher recs: good
Counselor recs: great

Essay: Must have been my strongest part, received a handwritten note from one of the admissions director saying how much they liked my essay.

Hook: Wear a cochlear implant (severely hearing impaired), essay talks about making the change from hearing aids to having surgery to get the implant and becoming a cyborg.

ok, based on the stats that i see everyone posted who was waitlisted, there has to be something missing... i am an accepted student and my stats were not as impressive as any here who i have seen .. i didnt even take sat II's (although i thought my essays were phenomenol)...

but what you may all be missing is something that Lehigh finds the most important out of all sections on the application, and that is whether you have visited or not... after talking with some of the admissions directors, it is of utmost importance... they explained to tour groups (juniors) how slim the chances are of anyone getting in who hasn't visited.. think about though, the chances that a student (who they accept) who has visited will go to Lehigh over their other choices is much greater when they have seen and experienced the campus

everyone in my school got weightlisted (a lot of incredible students!) as was I

Has anyone heard about any odds of getting in from the waitlist of 2012, or how about indications from admissions counselors of getting in?
