<:.Surreal for MIT?.:>

<p>Hi guys I hate to read when people write pointless stuff in their threads, but this one is long but not pointless (well you might think it is).
Brief Description: I moved here end of the August last year (07) and started as a , so called, junior. Back in Iran I attended the most selective school (National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents) in the country (only 200 students) and, unlike schools here, we HAD to study calc (like AB calc) and physics (almost AP C) in 10th rade. But who cares what I took there, they put me in regular precalc class and you can imagine what other classes were like. I had to "battle" my counselor for every course i wanted to change.
Note: My English knowledge was about zero so I was immediately placed in ESL program.
Here is the course load for junior year:
IB physics(A)
AP calc AB (A)
AP comp Sci(A)
IB Math SL I(A)
Us/Va History(A)
2 ESL classes (A,A)
I was left with 4 years of English to take and my counselor was telling me you can graduate hopefully in 2 years. In this summer I self-studied the rest of the calc till the end of the calc BC. Anyway Here is the summer:
English 9 (A)
English 10 (A)
Since teachers knew me at school the beginning of the school was really easy for me to change my classes and here is the course load:
Ap Lit (English 12)
IB English I (English 11)
IB physics HL
IB psychology
IB math HL I (calc BC)
IB math HL II
US/VA Gov
In addition I’m taking Vector calc at GMU in the afternoon. (Some of you know this course as Multivariable calc)
So 6 math classes in 2 years.
GPA 4.0 uw
SAT II: Math II (770) physics (740)- (I had fever on the test, are these any good should I retake them?)
SAT I : math 800 CR:no more than 650 W :no more than 650 (I'm taking it oct)</p>

<p>Awards:
Medal of excellence in math/science from George Washington University
1st place regional science fair and honorable mention in state fair (this is nothing in comparison to Intel ISEF which some of you have participated in, but consider my English at the time of presentation last year)
State Science Olympiad. 1st place and 2 3rd places</p>

<p>Sports:
Captain of the 2nd place team in the country in Futsal (indoor soccer)
1st place in state with the volleyball team</p>

<p>EC:
Math honor society
National honor society
Note: there was no way for me to become a president or something after couple months.
Vice president of the regional science fair (not in US)
Math club (not in US)
Physics club (not in US)
By the time I learned about AMC the due date was already passed, but I made it to top 200 in Iran in math and physics.
Projects:
Object tracking in high speeds (won some important awards in Iran)
Study of artificial jet of fluid (after splash caused by an object)</p>

<p>Programming skills: Visual C ++.net, C#.net, Java C++, Qbasic, HTML</p>

<p>Work Exprience: the summer that I had 2 summer shool classes I was working 30 hrs a week at Target in Electronics section of the store ( I can't get a better job because I cant drive)
Now with all these classes I'm working about 23 hrs a week. </p>

<p>Questions from you:
First of all thanks for reading this, I'm not a cocky person in case you think I am. In fact this is the first time I'm telling people what I've done and who I am at once. Do you think that it will be considered if I write whatever I've done in Iran or should I just not write them ?(sports, awards) Do you think when I say "I dream about MIT" is right, and I should just dream about it? or I actually do have a chance (I'm not talking about very very low chances)? my SAT cr score is going to be bad and I know it, what can I do ? Does applying EA to MIT help me ?</p>

<p>chance me please: MIT , Stanford, Cal tech, Berkeley, UCLA</p>

<p>Also my classrank is top 10 out of 800</p>

<p>Your SAT II scores are AWESOME, so don’t retake them!! You know that there is virtually no difference among scores as long as they are over 750? ALSO, your comparatively low English scores for SAT I should be overlooked, because of your ESL programs and your foreign situation and such. also clearly, your strength is math and sciences. Your classrank should HELP A TONNNNNNNNNNN. TOP 10 out of near a thousand is really, really great! BTW, what is futsal? The only reason why I, after reading all that(!), cannot specifically claim whether you have a chance for those mentioned schools is because… what are your AP scores? your IB scores? They are the most important!!! It doens’t matter whether you took those classes at school or not… the exam scores verify the rigor of the classes and compare you to other candidates. You are aware that everyone who applies to MIT have like Physics(5), BC CALCULUS(5), chemistry (5), biology (5), compter sicnece(5) etc etc etc.</p>

<p>stop tying like that…short and compact is better</p>

<p>You should definitely take your SAT II math portion. MIT expects nothing less than a 790 at least (a good chunk of students get perfect on the SATII Math anyway), since it IS a very competitive school for math and science especially. However if you have some sort of good excuse for that, no problem. “hmm” about the physics. If you know that you’ll do better, you should definitely retake that too. </p>

<p>Otherwise that application sounds pretty good~! Best of luck, and kudos for doing so well X3</p>

<p>yeah id retake math level 2.</p>

<p>not like i’d do nearly as good as a 740 though haha</p>

<p>thank you all. you did not tell me that putting all the stuff that I did outside of US helps or not?</p>

<p>BUMP 10 char</p>
