surrounding area

how is the area around Northeastern...i heard it was so so

depends on what side of campus. the side that i stayed 2 when i visited in april was not far from copley place and newbery street. i have nt been to the other side yet. i'll check it out when i get there in september.

hows the area u know

Northeastern is in a City and it is a place to keep your eyes and ears open. It is not in a leafy suburb where you can be "unaware of your surroundings" for four years.

That said, Northeastern is so big that it touches many Boston neighborhoods. As one poster indicated, the Copley Place and Prudential area is one of the livliest sections of Boston. NU is very close to the Longwood Medical area, home to the City's top Hospitals and the Harvard Medical School and Simmons College. It is adjacent to the City's best art museums, the Symphony and the NE Conservatory. It is also close to some public housing projects where street crime has been an issue. It is also adjacent to student housing neighborhoods where drinking, drug dealing and the occassional assault DO occur.

Stay alert. Most NU students do not experience crime nor do they live in fear. But do not wander around late at night either, unless you are in a (big) group...
