Survey

Hey everybody! I am currently a senior in high school and I have to write a research paper on some aspect of collegiate life for my English class. As I am deeply involved in the college admissions process right now, I figured it would be a good idea to choose some aspect of the college admissions process as my topic. Although I am unsure of exactly where I will go with this right now, I was thinking of possibly gauging the competitiveness of modern day college admissions relative to the competitiveness of college admissions a decade or so ago. After I had decided that the competitiveness of college admissions had increased or decreased, I would then attempt to answer two questions: “Why?” and “Is it a good thing?” Anyways, I digress. As of now, I am not exactly sure where I am going with this, but hopefully the data you provide me with will point me in the right direction.

As a heads up, the primary purpose of the survey is to get an idea of what kind of applicants got into what kind universities. As a result of this, the survey is intended for students who are already enrolled at an institution of higher education. However, I am not going to say that high school students cannot fill out the survey, but rather, if you are a high school student please note that you have not yet been accepted or denied at any of the schools you list. Furthermore, if you do not remember the answer to question, don’t bother answering it. It’s no big deal. I’d rather have no data than inaccurate data. I also realize that this is a large amount of information to list for no material gain. For this, I deeply apologize, but keep in mind that you need not fill out all the information. If you do not have time to list everything, I would still rather have some information than no information.

To my knowledge, there is no other way to obtain this kind of information besides actually surveying previous applicants. Therefore I would like to let you know I really, really appreciate you taking the time to fill this out because without this data, I have no paper. Thanks a lot!

Directions: Please list all answers to appropriate questions inside the ‘[ ]’s. For all lists (schools, SAT IIs, courses, etc.), copy and paste the template for each element of the list (e.g. fill out the given template for each school you applied to by copying and pasting). If you don’t use them all up, you may delete the unused slots. The rest, I’m assuming, is pretty straightforward.

I suggest that you go to the Ivy League and Top Universities boards and look at their 'results' threads. You'll find hundreds of results with full description waiting.

That was my original plan; however, I'm afraid my prof. would regard that as less "authoritative" than an actual survey. Of course, we both know that there really is no difference between me asking for information, and me reading that same information from other peoples posts. It's just the word "survey" comes across a lot nicer than "got information from an online forum."

But I will say this now, if you've typed something similar in another thread, you may copy and paste, or quote it to save time filling out the template above. Or if you prefer, just paste a link to the thread. Hopefully this will be considerd just as authoritative as if you actually filled out the template.

Thanks much!
