Sushi Bars

I just had a craving for sushi, though I'm way up here in the mountains. Are there any good sushi bars around campus (I'm guessing there are)?

I've never had sushi before until yesterday. Costco had free samples, so I tried one. So friggin' good.

So yeah, is there sushi anywhere nearby? Ooh, boba too!

If anyone responds, were getting sushi on move-in day, being as i will have never been to LA and you'll probably know your way around

i'm almost positive that the Commons has a sushi-to-go/bar there...Wasabi Sushi it's called. sounds like a plan though...sushi would be great on Move In day.

Yes there's sushi on campus. Trojan Grounds, Tutor Cafe, and Commons all sell sushi in little plastic containers like they do at supermarkets. And then there's the sushi bar at Commons also.

Little Tokyo is just a few miles north of campus, as is Korea Town. They both have delicious restaurants that you should definitely check out during the year.

The sushi on campus is like what 2+2=5 said....prepared already in plastic containers and sitting there for god knows how many days. They DO NOT taste good at all...mainly because they are not as fresh. I bought some in the Popovich Cafe and it was really dry and lacking flavor. If you want fresh there is that place in the commons with a little sit down area where you can watch them make fresh sushi in front of you. UV also has a Japanese place in the food court where they have some sushi...not anything too fancy of course. But if you are a big sushi eater with a big appettite I recommend going to Todai at one of its many locations in the area....
Of course, if you are willing to drive further away from campus there are trendy places to go get sushi (i.e. Sushi Roku, Geisha House, Koi......).

yeah, the sushi on campus is pretty bad. definitely worth the drive through downtown to eat at little tokyo.

I like Wasabi Sushi. The sushi from Trojan Grounds isn't bad either. In Commons it's hand-made right there in front of you, and it's all fresh. For boba, my Bible study group walked to Cup O' Joy every week. It's a little expensive, but great.

Edit: I just read baboking's post and I'm not sure what that's about. I never go to Popovich Cafe, though, so that could be worse. When you're getting Sushi-to-go from Wasabi sushi or TG, just look at the date on the box and take the freshest one. They're made on a daily basis so you should always be able to get sushi less than 1 day old, usually just minutes/hours. The best part is that it's a short walk from most dorms. I'm not a particularly picky eater though.

I've had better sushi than the stuff they made on campus, so that's why I think the sushi they make is not very good. Yes, I'm picky but I honestly believe that the sushi they have on campus (mainly the ones in those to go plastic containers) is frankly just bad. I used to work at a Japanese restaurant back in high school so I guess that explains it......

zip fusion sushi is tasty in downtown

Apparently the fresh sushi in commons isn't too bad, also the food in general at UV is pretty good. I don't usually eat sushi so I can't tell you personally, though.

I would join you guys but I high-tail it out of campus on move-in day. Best to avoid move-in day crowds & parking if possible :)

When do you move in? I assume there won't be any problem with moving in later (how about on the first day of classes?)

Hmm.. on second thought, I do remember that room assignments were decided right there, so I might have to go early for that.

this year move-in day is wednesday, aug 17th

if you're asking me, I don't move-in. I don't live in on-campus housing.

Well, wednesday, Aug. 16th, but if your going off campus it won't matter

oops, yea. the 16th

Not my fault though. The USC office of campus activities website said wed August 17th. Unfortunately it's down now :)

move in day is just the first day of your contract, you could technically move in later to avoid the hustle and bustle, but you'll end up missing some welcome week events.
