Suspension Affecting Chances of Admission

I was recently suspended for three days due to an incident involving my being caught with a vape during the state BPA meet. It was outside of school, but I was still sent home, removed from BPA, and suspended. I would like to attend the University of Michigan, but I have growing fears that this one slip up will keep me from being admitted. I’m a junior and I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 1360 on my SAT (planning on raising), 30 on my ACT (also planning on raising), and I am a member of numerous groups at my school such as NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Gov., Peer2Peer, etc., all of which I was permitted to remain in despite the suspension. Other than this one incident, my record is clean and I plan to keep it that way. Will this one fault severely hurt my chances of getting in?

I guess it’s also worth mentioning that my schedule is pretty rigorous.

The general thinking when you have that type of smudge on your record is to add a few more match & safety schools to your list.

Just be honest on your common application. They will ask for your disciplinary history, and all you have to do is tell the truth and what you learned from my mistake. I still got into my dream school despite the fact that I had a record of cheating.

If your stats were a little higher I’d say you’d be okay, especially since most schools will probably see your suspension as a trivial mistake (plagiarism or cheating would be MUCH worse and a different story), but your stats are kinda on the verge for UMich even without the suspension, so I personally think it can hurt you a little, esp if they are comparing you to other students with higher stats (since many people EA) and no suspensions
