i got suspended from school for two weeks for fighting my freshman year. How do i explain that to colleges? Do i go into detail about the exact situation or just say "i got suspended because i got in a fight"?

Just explain what happened. Don't overdo it if what you are saying is making it sound worse, but don't lie about it either.

This is, unfortunately, my area of expertise. S has had a lot of help with his explanation of suspension/expulsion. It is best to do a brief statement of what happened, what the consequence was, and what you learned from it. If it caused you to miss classes and get behind- or get lower grades- mention that. Then point out that you learned to control your temper no matter how much you are provoked and mention that it has never happened again (if true....).
If you want me to look it over, I would be glad to.

ok but should i mention that i was provoked to fight, instead of, say, instigating it?

Yes- tell the true story without sounding like you are making excuses. Say you learned that even if provoked, you need to restrain yourself and walk away.

ok how long do u think i should make it? i'm guessing maybe 150-250 words

I'm in the same situation squarepants.
I'm going to write them a very professional letter, explaining everything.
But, Mine's WAYY longer than 250 words.
It's like, 400 words (maybe more)

Do you guys think that is too long?

I don't think it is a matter of how many words. Sometimes a more complicated situation might take more words. You just don't want to whine and be redundant. It needs to sound mature and honest.

hey chanman what did u do?

2 things.

didnt listen to teacher (somewhat insubordination)

got mad at some kid because he cheated at a game. slammed hand on table. knocked over soda

haha wow...what grade?

9th

10th

Two weeks suspension sounds extreme. It was probably more serious than just a fight. Was the other guy seriously hurt? It sounds more than what you let on.
