Suspension in admissions to UPenn, MIT, Stanford

I was suspended in the first semester of my sophomore year for academic dishonesty. I have good scores from a severely underrepresented state, and my ECs are good.

Will Wharton (ED), MIT (EA), and Stanford auto-reject me because of my suspension?

Academic Dishonesty = not good…

What exactly did you do…?

Copying unauthorized material from a classmate.

Basically they will unless you can show that you’ve changed. Academic dishonesty is a big no-no, more so than drugs/sex/rock and roll.

I’ve most definitely changed. I have done nothing wrong for the past (almost) 2 years now. I’ve even amended the school’s handbook to reinforce the honor code. Does this count for anything? Or am I screwed?

It all boils down to whether you can convince them that ur a changed person. Understandably, they will be skeptical.

“I’ve even amended the school’s handbook to reinforce the honor code. Does this count for anything” <–this sounds spiffy. are you quite serious? what exactly did you do? you could include that…I think you MUST do interviews  when these colleges see “academic dishonesty” violations, they’ll probably automatically look at the interview report next. or they ought to.

If you retell your story to the rep from so-and-so college, maybe they’ll sympathize. you were just a stupid sophomoric sophomore. haha riight? ;)

also, interesting that you’re not applying to Cal-Tech. and good. they’re very VERY into academic honesty. like, they don’t take a lot of measures to prevent academic dishonesty. during exams, the professors just walk out and trust the students to be good. it’s cool, but they’d probably throw your application out the window, should you apply :p
