Suspensions...

Hey, I was suspended in 1st Grade (i.e. elementary school), and was wondering if I need to report that when schools ask, "Have you ever been suspended?"

Are they just referring to HS stuff, or anytime? Also, do you really think it would hurt my chances if I got suspended in 1st grade, but haven't had a single disciplinary action taken against me since? Thanks!

No, you don't need to report that. Most schools ask if you have ever been suspended from any secondary high school, which means 9th grade and up only.

Well, our school has a policy where they don't forward your discipline record to colleges unless you are expelled (you are asked to leave at first). If I got suspended, would I still have to say it on the app?

I dunno. Do you only have to report HS offenses?

BUMP

wut u do? lol if u tried to stab sum kid with a scissor id prob like to know bout that for housing purposes if i was an ADCOM :)

Nope, nothing that exciting, lol! Plus, I'd think you'd of been expelled for trying to stab someone...just a thought :D

idk id let em go if he was a first grader, im a camp counselor, id def resort to sum sort of bodily harm if i was these kids' ages

lol, well my offense wasn't quite so violent, hehe. Let's just say that I showed a little more of myself to another student than the teacher would have liked...But, keep in mind it was in first grade. Do you guys still think it would be necessary to report it?

Well, it's already on your PERMANENT RECORD! ;)

True, but do they look at an entire permanent record, or just from 9th grade and on? And if they do, do you think it would hurt my chances at all applying to places like Princeton and Duke?

You only need to report suspensions or other infractions that occurred during HS. Your HS transcript is usually what adcoms see, so that is why the question is asked on the app form.

That's what I figured, but I was just curious because as I look at Cornell's app, it states, "Have you ever been suspended, etc." So, that's ever from HS? Just making sure.

aha i had two kids who did that in my kindergarten class...ya they havent lived it down

lol, I just don't see how it would be fair to penalize me for something I did almost ELEVEN years ago...you know? So what do you think?

Capital punishment is too good for you.

im sure u will be ok...however if u wanted to be a NY state trooper...that may bite u in the ass ahaa...a friend of mine got fired for shoplifting when he was 12...he didnt get hired because of it

Ya but thats just a random story, i think u will be fine, and if they reject u based on wut u did in first grade, u dont need that school and their trivial admissions standards!

Thats assuming u have to put it down, which im pretty sure u dont. Besides if i was an adcom and i saw sumthin like that on ur permanent record, noticing it happened in like the first grade, id probably chuckle and not even take note of it. But im pretty sure its not important, nor do u need to put it down.

If it makes u feel any better my brother got suspended a day for ordering pizza in High School...ORDERING PIZZA!?!

he ended up at the naval academy lol

lol, guess we don't have to worry about any "trivial admissions process" for the naval academy then? hehe, this may be a bit off base, but do you think it might actually "help" me if I did have to write it down? I mean, make me a tiny bit more unique? lol, or I just crazy ;)

ya...i wouldnt suggest it, like i said be4 id be thinkin about housing with that kinda track record ahaha

Um, since when does the school look at your 1st grade transcript, I have too many gum chewing-on-the-playground violations that might hurt my image ;)
