SVA or Otis or Pratt or Parsons

I got accepted to all of those schools for communication design (advertising). I really don't know where I should go because I have been hearing mixed review about each of those schools.

I'm not a big fan of the Parsons' course and price, however it is Parsons. I feel like going to Parsons will give me more opportunities compared to the other schools. As for Otis, it is not that well known, but looking at the reviews the curriculum seems great, but it is in LA.

Hi, I have the exact same problem except that I have been accepted to all those school for BFA fine arts. Parsons is really pricy and I ve heard it is not as good as SVA. I also received a scholarship from Pratt but I ve heard the campus is terrible and not as good of a school than SVA. But I still have not made up my mind either…

I actually just visited SVA, Parsons, and Pratt so I can give a quick review of what I saw if you’d like!
Parsons is very media-based arts, so everything that they teach is geared towards how it can be used in the media. I feel like it makes everything fit into a trend? But it’s definitely good at teaching what it teaches, so if that is what you’re into, then for sure. The facilities are quite nice, all of the software is up to date and is constantly getting upgraded- but that is true for all of the schools. The dorms are nice as well, but they are all drastically different from each other. Stuyvasant has an active social life but smells like cigarettes all of the time and is kind of run down? Where as Lobe is beautiful and super chic.

Pratt is really nice all around, it’s the only school in New York with a enclosed campus? So although it is in Brooklyn, the safety is not a problem at all. They teach everything in a very well rounded manner, but their workload is immense. While it’s true that all of those schools require a lot of time and attention, I think Pratt may expect the most out of their foundation students. But the buildings and facilities are all nice, I didn’t find anything to complain about. Their dorms are a little iffy in my opinion, particularly the fact that the bathrooms don’t have locks? But it may be a different situation for a different style, aka apartment style perhaps.

SVA is definitely more geared towards the individual, and their learning style/ artistic style. It’s very common for art schools to have a taste or genre they push, but SVA is none of that. They try to make you the top in what you do, not the top in the industry they are a part of, if that makes sense? So you have to have a strong sense of self. I’m not sure about their dorms, but their facilities for classes are quite nice. They try and make sure to have the best of the best in whatever it is that they teach so the equipment and such is all very lovely.

If you have any questions feel free to message me or however it is that this works! Visiting the schools was definitely helpful for me, so I hope I can shed some light on that aspect :]

Opportunities are what you make of them, including finding ones when you think there are none(or when there really are none).

Considering that Otis is the only school not in NY, eliminating or choosing Otis, is really a matter of taste. Do you want to be in LA, and/or possibly live in LA after graduating? The career resources you will find at any of these schools will be strongest in each school’s geographical area. Getting an internship or job(after graduation) will depend primarily on you and your skills/portfolio/employment experience.

i hope you chose Pratt…
Pratt and SVA have the far superior advertising programs
