SO, I’m currently a freshman at community college, taking some general education courses to save money and transfer to a good art school. My senior year, I actually applied to TEN schools and got accepted to them all but decided it’d be best to just start out at CC. I ended up deferring my acceptance to SVA (illustration) for Fall 2017, but I’m thinking about switching to Design. I didn’t apply to FIT, but I’m going to apply this year for their Communication Design program, in case my credits don’t end up transferring to SVA and they don’t give me my scholarship again.
But, is SVA worth it? I know that it has the benefit of being in NYC, so essentially people who go there are paying for both the education AND networking, but FIT is located in manhattan too and it’s so much more inexpensive, so… Also, that would also give me the option of applying to a good grad school to supplement my undergrad education in case I feel it was insufficient.
I’m also applying to Boston University (graphic design), Syracuse (illustration), because I really prefer an art school within a bigger university, but I know that New York City would give me better internships and connections.
