Hello, I am a senior in HS trying to figure out which college to attend to.
I started art 5 yrs ago with a common interest of computer/digital arts; 3D Animation.
Therefore, I applied to 5 art schools in US with an exception of 1 which is just a city college in NY (Queens College).
I received 5 letters from them already besides FIT (still waiting).
The results were:
Queens College - Accepted
Ringling(major: BFA Computer Animation) - Waitlist
SVA(major: BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation, and Visual Effect) - Accepted w/ $60,000 scholarship
Parsons(major: BFA Illustration) - Accepted w/ $68,000 scholarship
Pratt(major: BFA Digital Arts) - Accepted w/ $84,000 scholarship
I was, pretty surprised at the result, because I wasn’t really confident about my own art portfolio.
But the happiness is a momentary feeling, that now I have to concern about WHICH ONE to enroll.
My 1st choice of all time was SVA, since it is the top college for my major, and I was pretty determined to enroll there untill I received a letter of scholarship from Pratt.
I could’ve avoided Parsons and FIT in any cases since they didn’t have my major, but Pratt has my major and gave me much more scholarship as well.
When I calculated, out of total tuition fee per year, I received 38% of scholarship for SVA and Parsons, and 41% for Pratt.
3% doesn’t seem much but alot for me because I have to worry about the money (my parents are not paying a single penny). All the rest of the payment I have to make comes from student loan T_T
I lack of informations for Pratt because it wasn’t my first choice at all. However for SVA, I attended campus tour, portfolio day, and have a friend who actually attends there as an undergraduate.
I need an advice in choosing a college ASAP…
My top concerns would be:
- money
- connections
- reputation for my major
- professors
- amount of work I have to do (very competitive?)
- overall view
Thank you
