I need some advice! I get mixed reviews each time I look this up, so I figure I’d ask myself.
I’ve been accepted to all three of these schools (and two others which I’m just not interested in) for illustration. If it helps, my dream job after school is to become some sort of concept / character artist for an animation company.
I love the campus of SVA the most (I’d prefer to be in a city, I’ve been to NYC many times and love it so much), I love the program of Ringling the most (I know they cater to the entertainment industry and their connections to companies I’d love to work for is astounding), and MICA seems to have both of those things combined (a good program + good city-like area). BUT:
SVA’s downside is it has no meal plan, which would definitely give me a run for my money in a city like NYC. Plus, I haven’t actually visited the campus yet, but I’m doing that in April so it’ll give me a better idea. Ringling’s downside is that Sarasota isn’t exactly … the most exciting place to live, but I do “know” that area the most (I have friends that live there). MICA’s downside is that I heard they don’t really “connect” w/ the entertainment industry too much (let me know if this is actually true, as it’s just something I heard) and that they focus more on fine arts, and Baltimore isn’t exactly the safest (even visiting the school gave me a lil bit of the creeps).
So, each school has their upsides and downsides, as expected. I decided asking some artists / people who might go to some of these schools themselves would be the best bet, so advise away!
