I’m currently a senior in HS and have applied to both SCAD and SVA. Scad is closer, but I imagine that being in NYC SVA has more connections and opportunities. Could anyone who has been to either school or that has any info tell me if one is clearly better than the other or anything else I should know while making a decision??
In what major are you interested? There’s a lot of inconsistency at SCAD.
My son is also trying to make a similar decision. If you cared about having a social life I would say SCAD. My son could care less and would rather work on something he loved to do with like minded people. That is his idea of a social life. SVA touted the push NYC is making in becoming the animation capital of the US. This is the area of study my son is applying for. They do have a lot of studios in and around the area. My son also says that SVA has a lot of students who do start up studios in collaboration with other SVA grads. SVA teachers are also working professionals who pull from the school. These are all great facts, but as a parent sending my son to a school that has no food program and dropping him off in downtown Manhattan is a scary proposition. NYC is expensive and the dorms are tiny as well as the fact that the weather is not great in the winter. SCAD is the # 3 ranked animation school according to Animation Career. SVA moved from 14th place to 6th this year proving that they are becoming a force to be reckoned with. Good luck making a choice. If it were up to me I would like the weather, campus, food program, new dorms that SCAD has to offer as well as being ranked # 3 in it’s field. My son will probably choose SVA because of the city and the promise that it holds for a future career and the exposure working professionals.
