Swarthmore Application SOS

I got this email from Swarthmore a few days ago:

"It’s true--you have a fee waiver and a deadline extension for your application!

The extension will be until Wednesday, January 15th and directions on how to apply to Swarthmore can be found here on our webpage.

To use the fee waiver and extension, simply select the “Online Fee Waiver” option via the Common App on the Profile section. Forward this email to your counselor as proof that you have permission to request a fee waiver. You’ll automatically be able to apply via the Common App until the 15th—no action is required on your part."

It's from a swarthmore.edu email address, so it's definitely legit. I selected the "Online Fee Waiver" option, but it didn't change the deadline of the application in the My Colleges page. My counselor is on Christmas vacation like everyone else, so can't really take any action in verifying, etc.

I'm REALLY freaking out, because I'm not sure what happens on Common App after I haven't submitted by Jan 1?? Does the college just disappear? Will I actually not be allowed to apply?

Swarthmore isn't responding to any of my emails about it and I'm just...worried.

Lucky!

I think this has happened in previous years: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/swarthmore/1263265-deadline-extended-2.html

Apparently the CommonApp deadline will not change, but you will still be allowed to submit your supplements until the 15th.

Just out of curiosity–are you a minority student? I heard that they tend to send fee waivers and extensions for minority recruitment, and I haven’t received one.

My son received the email 2 days ago. He is Asian so not a URM.
