I recently visited swarthmore, and really, really liked it. I'm still nervous about applying ED because I'm scared I'll realize in march that I don't actually want to go to the school (assuming I get in, which certainly isn't guaranteed).

Anyway, I'm trying to get more information about Swarthmore's dance program because I definitely want to dance in college in student groups etc. and although I've danced through high school, I don't have the experience that many other dancer do.

Ideally, I'd love to dance 3-4 times a week, and while I know I can take classes, I'd also like to be involved in student run groups. What are the groups like at swat, and are they highly competitive to get into?

Thanks!

As I understand it, Swarthmore’s dance program is well respected. There are a lot of opportunities for non-dance majors to get involved in performances, which draw large and enthusiastic crowds. If you want to dance at Swat, you would certainly be able to dance.

Are those dance classes though, or student run groups? I know they have a great program through the department, but I was also wondering about groups outside of that. I’ve heard about Terpsichore, which is a group I’d be interested in, but I don’t know much about it.

I think those were dance department productions.

Here’s one from a student dance group:
