The clock is ticking and those letters are coming soon. If the rest of you ED-ers are anything like me, you're staring at the mailbox obsessively right now and structuring your entire calendar for the month of December around the imminent arrival of The Letter - and you need
a hobby, which, for the purposes of this thread, is defined as somewhere to vent. Thoughts, obsessions, and results all welcome - we need something to keep us sane!

Good luck to you all. My son was admitted ED last year and is now at Swat. He is ecstatically happy. There was an active facebook group last year for the Class of 2013 (started by one of the students, not an official one). A kid who was a sophmore joined and helped to provide information for the students.

By the way, his letter came a little before the 15th and it was not a fat envelope. My husband opened it not realizing what it was. Again, good luck.

Congratulations to your son, Nursekay! I’m glad it’s worked out so well for him.

heyyyyyyyyyy
i applied ED too and am absolutely DYING TO KNOW (hoping its good news of course).
i absolutely feel for ya

So does anyone know what day they actually send the letters out?
last year it was the 11th which was a thursday…this year the 11th is a friday …, haha dont know if it makes a difference or not.

Good luck to all of you! S2 was admitted ED1 last year and loves it there! Please do not be concerned that your kids are quiet because my son got very quiet the last week before notifications. I will tell you Swarthmore is all that it is cracked up to be and more. Good luck and relax this week. I am betting you all find out on Saturday.

I’m pretty sure the decision was made this past Wednesday, so the letters should be arriving soon.

By chance I happened to find out when the apps were going before the admissions committee because I forgot to send in my signed ED agreement. I’m really nervous and I’ve been staking out the mailbox since Friday. This weekend I’ve just been trying to forget about THE letter coming.

Good luck to everyone!

oh wow! So the letters could get here at anytime?! this makes me so nervous!

Really? It seems inconceivable that they would send them out THAT much earlier than last year - I’ve been counting down obsessively to the tenth under the (probably flawed) conclusion that they’ll send them out on Thursday again (like last year) - but maybe there were just significantly fewer applications this year? That would be really nice… Of course, they might just wait to send them out, anyways! Especially if they need to work out financial aid information and want to include that information with the decision.

Good luck to everyone!

i live pretty close and am beyond tempted to drive up there and beg them to tell me if i got in or not

haha not that they would…

i hate waitingggggggggg ahhhhhhh sghkkkkkkkigufif

@KaitHags I live close-by as well. I think it’d be easier to just sleep outside the admissions office until they come to a decision (perhaps a little extreme).

@SprioSpero I agree with your (slight) hesitation over the notification date. I’ve been counting down on a calendar for the 15th basically so that if they come earlier it’ll be somewhat of a surprise. I mean theoretically coming anywhere from the 12th-15th is reasonable. Considering that the number of ED apps probably went up this year I wouldn’t be surprised to not find out until next tuesday.

I just wish we could get some sort of email with a specific date/time of notification. I know other kids who have been told point blank in admissions emails that the decisions will be posted this friday at 3 pm (Wesleyan and Penn ED decisions that is)

I’m pretty positive that Swarthmore doesn’t post online…they go the traditional way…which is a little more suspenseful.

oh i’m packing muh tent now hah
but i’m kind of counting it coming on the 12th
i just want to know… so not digging the suspense… shaving years of my life hah
a couple of my friends find out about Penn and Cornell ED on thursday and friday and they’re pretty much in so i’m just going to be sitting there while theyre all happy
fmlllll for realzzzz

yea, it definitely is a suspenseful experience! I have quite a few friends that found out from William & Mary already, so they are celebrating and I am anxiously awaiting!

so how are we exactly supposed to find out whether we’ve been accepted or not? would they just e-mail us? but i feel like e-mail is a little too informal… are you sure they’re actually mailing the letters? i thought that most colleges do it online?

Actually, according to what I heard Swarthmore’s ED application pool went down significantly… The economy apparently really reeked havoc on smaller, more expensive schools. Unofficially I heard that there were just over 100 ED 1 applicants. Last year they sent their decisions out on the 11th, but the previous year they sent their decisions out the week after Thanksgiving. It varies from year to year, I think. Also, they won’t send anything via email or online. Everything comes in the same size envelope, whether its an acceptance, rejection or deferral.

I know exactly how you all feel. I just want to know and I would definitely camp outside of admissions to find out just a little earlier! The suspense is killing me!

I’m pretty positive that they just send letters, I haven’t received anything from them about how to check online…and I feel like an email is a little to informal as well.

Yeah, my friend, who is a current student there, works in admissions and they definitely don’t do anything online in terms of letting you know if you’re in or not. I agree that its a little too informal that way. It would be nice to hear a little earlier, but hey what can you do?

By the way, I’m so happy I found this “support group”. Now I know I’m not the only one agonizing over Swarthmore ED 1! Thanks :)

so if the number was that low, do you think that there would still be the same percentage of acceptance? I am extremely glad that I found this group too! because I don’t know how much of my rambling/nervous thoughts/talking my friends can take these next few days! haha
