All decisions are sent by mail???
I’m an international student in China and still didn’t receive my decision…!!!

No changes in online status too…

SOS !!! ><

International students are notified by e-mail. I talked to the admissions office yesterday and they said we would be notified by today. Best of Luck.

guuuuu, ok, let’s keep patient and wait. And the best luck to all of us.

I am denied. Hope some of you can be accepted. Best wishes.

:(

Was anyone accepted? Maybe Swarthmore is taking a year off from having freshmen next year.

Hahaha. Yeah, it seems like it.

[Running Tally on Some Colleges’ Early Admission Figures - The Choice Blog - NYTimes.com](http://thechoice.blogs.nytimes.com/tally/) the new york times says Swat accepted 129 people early… strange.

^ Last year common data set shows 166 ED admits out of 497 applicants. Assuming that the numbers stay the same this year and that they include both ED 1 and 2, only 37 people will be accepted in ED2 this year. However, the applicant pool for ED2 would be (497 - 292) = 205 applicants. That’s a 18.5% ED2 admit rate compared to 44% (126/292) ED1 admit rate this year. Suddenly I don’t feel so good :(.

^Seriously, stop overanalyzing statistics. The idea of any college’s admissions process is to pick students of a certain academic caliber. The perceived difference in admissions rates between ED and RD is not explained by the nature of the pool or the applicants but by the fact that these applicants have chosen that institution as their first choice. So whether you have a very high ED1 admit rate or a very low ED2 admit rate or whatever else, if you’re of the caliber that Swarthmore wants, you’ll be accepted in whatever round that you apply in.

srrinath… that’s not really true …haha

What srinnth wrote is fundamentally true. There’s a bit more to it, but it doesn’t change the basic premise.

Swarthmore is looking for:

a) academically qualified students who are likely to flourish at Swarthmore

b) applicants who have demonstrated a good fit, i.e. that they know what is distinctive about Swarthmore and expressed a strong desire to attend.

c) applicants who fill one of the many “slots” in the admissions process – diversity, athletics, volunteers, writers, tutors, science geeks, and so forth.

The early decision numbers reflect that fact that the ED pool is very strong. A high percentage of that pool would be accepted regardless of when they apply. As a whole, the ED applicant pool consists of the high school seniors who are MOST enthusastic about Swarthmore. Of course they are going to be accepted at higher than average rates. My daughter had visited twice, stayed overnight, attended classes, met with faculty, visited the Lang Center, and spent hours over dinner one night with an alum getting the scoop. That stuff makes for strong applications.

c) above is why you can’t take it personally. You could be a very strong applicant and get shut out by the numbers game in various slots. For example, the acceptance rate for caucasian U.S. females is very low because there are a lot of applicants in that group and a smaller number of slots (less than 25% of the acceptance letters). That part you have no control over and it’s not a reflection on your application or your qualifications at all.

@utwo yeah this is killing me it seems like most other people have gotten their decisions already…i’m going to call them if it doesn’t come within a few days, so hopefully i’ll find out soon :S

So I realized today that I never posted an update about my admissions decision - I did get in. Thank you everyone for your support and good luck to all.

congrats Sprio!
