Swarthmore ED '19 Mailing Date Momof3Sons?

Hello mom3mom. Thanks for all your insight on Swarthmore. You've enlightened me from a perspective that complemented the vibes I got from my visits, interviews, research, ect. I applied ED for class of 2019. Do you know when the ED decisions will be mailed out this year?

Also, I got my application, transcripts, recs, scores in by the 11/14/14 deadline. Didn't get my entire FA app in until 11/28/14. If I'm admitted, does acceptance letter come with a tentative FA offer or does the FA info come later? Thank you.

Hey bottomofthepile, this year Swarthmore is moving to electronic notification, so look out for an email with info on how that will pan out closer to admission date. From my knowledge (which is pretty good), Admissions is planning to put out decisions as close to the 15th as possible to give them enough time to make sure their first electronic round of notifications ever works out well.

I was admitted ED and a tentative FA letter came with that, but it can also come a week or so after (as was the case with my friend). If you have any other questions let me know!

Thanks for the reply BostonBoy95. That’s the first time that I heard about Swarthmore going to electronic notification for US residents so that’s exciting. I was so excited, I checked the Swarthmore website to see if they updated information about how admissions decisions are sent but the Swarthmore website still saids:" Students living in the U.S. will be notified of their admissions decision by postal mail, students living abroad will receive their decisions electronically and through postal mail." So now I was really curious so I called the admissions office and the woman I talked to repeated the mantra “Students living in the U.S. will be notified of their admissions decision by postal mail, students living abroad will receive their decisions electronically and through postal mail.”

So perhaps you have more inside information than the sources I just checked with do. Would that be a fairly accurate statement? Would you care to relay how you know that Swarthmore is moving towards electronic notification? Thank you.

As someone who also applied ED to the Swarthmore class of 2019, good luck!!

Hi again, I’m 100% certain electronic notification is happening for normal decision and fairly certain it was early decision too, I can check again though and confirm.

Also, anyone admitted will also get a decision letter mailed to them so they can have that physical copy (which is why there might be some confusion on the receptionists’ end, who is usually a student depending on when you call).

If anyone has any other questions let me know!

Thanks Boston Boy95. You’re right, I called during lunch time so it sounded like a student filling in while the actual admissions staff was at lunch. She did not sound very knowledgeable so I trust your information much more.

@BostonBoy95: Do you know about how many students applied ED to Swarthmore this year?

If you get any inkling about when the decision will be released to the portal or when the acceptance letters are going out, could you please post it here. Thank you

Any idea when the email notifications will be sent?

Looks like @BostonBoy95 is spot on about electronic notification–I just opened the admissions dept website and under Application Admisison Deadlines it says “Note: Students will be notified of their admissions decision electronically.”

Yes, that is very cool how @BostonBoy95 called it on this thread a week ahead of the official change on Swarthmore’s website ^:)^ . He knows more than the students answering phones at the Admissions Office. I’m guessing he is on a first name basis with Director of Admissions Jim Bock. Now if we can get @Bostonboy95 to call when the actual electronic notification will go out [-O<

Everyone is on a first name basis with jim (and other admission staffs) at Swat  Did anyone get " let’s get real" postcard from Swat? Also please mention if you applied ED and the date which you received the card?

I applied ED from Massachusetts on 11/10 and did not receive any postcard. Is it possible these postcards were sent only to international applicants?

I’m an international student and I got one of these post cards on around Dec 5. I’ve heard of other overseas applicants who weren’t mailed one? @classified000‌ got one too.

@Xianggangren @classified000 @Helium46 what does the ‘let’s get real’ postcard say?

My daughter hasn’t gotten one. Is that a bad sign? Do all people who are accepted get one?

@guudtalk‌ Nothing much. It gives swarthmore.edu/letsgetreal link where we can find few brief videos.
@123Kittens‌ I think it is neither a good nor a bad sign, unless there are few other ED applicants who got this around Dec 5.

@123Kittens, given that no one has heard yet about their admissions results, it’s impossible to know the significance of a post card–but unless it’s a Likely Letter it’s unlikely to mean anything. At this stage in the game anxiety is high and it’s tempting to read all kinds of significance into trivial things! Breathe–we’ll all find out in less than a week.

I hope it means nothing.

That’s funny, I got the “Let’s Get Real” postcard months ago…like in September or October. I doubt it means anything.

Acceptance letters set to go out on Monday 12/15/14:

Soo… Guys… How did it go?
