I have an interview with the dean from Swarthmore College on Monday, Oct. 14th.
What should I be prepared to answer? Has anyone else done an interview for them yet? Any insight is appreciated!

Also! What should I wear? I wore slacks and a white-collared button up to my interview with American University; I don't know much about this stuff.

I’m an alumni interviewer. Be prepared to talk about your high school experience - what classes and teachers you like and why. What extracurricular activities you are active in and why. What things you think you might like to try in college which you haven’t been able to in high school.

As to what to wear - something comfortable and neither too formal or too sloppy. If you’re comfortable in slacks and a white collared button up shirt that’s fine. If you’re more comfortable in clean blue jeans and a polo shirt that’s fine, too. Probably best not to wear a jacket and tie or a ripped pair of shorts with a t-shirt with an obscenity.

And be confident in yourself. My freshman son who never wears a shirt with a collar, went so far as to wear one for his interview with his shorts. We were there during the summer and there were guys there in grey slacks, white shirts, ties and blazers. As dadx3 says, be comfortable, but not sloppy! You are who they are interested in.

My son wore his most respectable khaki shorts and his nicest t-shirt (grey with a big 5 on the front), he was admitted ED. Don’t stress too much over your clothing. Make sure you have some questions to ask about Swarthmore. Do your homework and be able to talk about the school in an informed way. Try to move beyond “I’m looking for a liberal arts school in the northeast with small classes”. Swat wants students who want to be at Swat. If you have an idea of what you want to major in you might want to get in touch with the chair of that department to see if they have time to meet with you. My son found it very helpful.

Swarthmore had one of the more in-depth interviews. I think there was a question about what you would change at your current school or something like that. Also, be prepared to ask good question about Swarthmore.
