Swarthmore Transfers Fall 2014

Hello! Is anyone else applying to Swarthmore as a transfer for next semester?
(and by that, of course, I mean "is anyone anxiously checking their physical mail box all the time?")

Oh it’s snail mailed. Hahaha I thought it was online. My bad.

Anyways, me! Not counting on getting in since most LACs I applied to either rejected or waitlisted me, but whatevs. This year is brutal for transfers applying to LACs. So many more freshmen are happy and staying next year and the acceptance rates I know so far have dropped from the past couple years.

I called a few days ago and they said that the packets were in the mail…so yes, I believe it should be snail mail! Stay positive–it’s such a crapshoot! I honestly thought that I wasn’t going to be admitted to any of the LACS that I applied to but I’ve only gotten green lights so far  where else are you waiting on? Are you committed anywhere?

I just got the letter in the mail. I’m in! Any fellow Swarthmore transfers out there?

Congrats!! Will you be attending Swat, then?
And if you applied for aid, did they include your FA award?

I dunno, it’s up in the air right now. I’m gonna visit some schools after I take my last final of the semester tomorrow. So far I have been accepted into UNC Chapel Hill, University of Virginia and Swarthmore. I have 5 schools left to hear from, a few of which will reply tomorrow; Brown, Rice, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins and Pomona. I know, it’s a lot of schools for a transfer student, but I just sort of went for it. Swarthmore is my top choice at the moment! I applied for need-based financial aid, yeah. And, as I’m sure you know, Swarthmore is committed to meeting 100% of their students needs and they don’t actually use loans. They told me I had a few forms missing but if I submitted them ASAP then they’d give me the full award.

Just a little bit of background, I’m a student at the University of Minnesota, which is where I grew up! I hope to graduate with by B.S. in computer science and another in cognitive science.

Ah, that must mean bad news for me if acceptances are already rolling in. Oh well

@transferfall2014 Swarthmore’s actually my third-to-last college. I’m still waiting on Rice and ND. I already committed to Vandy, so no matter what happens I’ll be A-Okay!

@VikingOfTahrir Congrats!!!

@vikingoftahrir --mad props, and best of luck with your other schools! I’m also waiting on Brown, so fingers crossed for the both of us :)

@Juvenis --not bad news, just slow postal service! That’s the mindset I’m trying to have anyway. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll get our letters!

Waitlisted to Swat! Oh, well–I think if my Wellesley FA is as good as my Wes FA, then I won’t sign up for the waitlist. Best of luck to everyone else!

Where do you guys live? I don’t see anything in my mail yet.

@Juvenis I’m in Kansas–are you on the West Coast?

No, I’m in Texas.

Just got it in the mail. Rejected, but not upset in any way.

Hey !! I am waitlisted at Swarthmore, is anyone else waiting on it ?

I’m still waiting =.= and I only live 80 miles away… lol what gives?

Rejected
For anyone wondering about why I think I was rejected… honestly, all of my things were good: strong GPA, test scores, extracurriculars, interview, etc., but I took advice on my essays from someone I was consistently doubting the entire way through, and I took their advice for only two other colleges and was summarily rejected from those two as well. I mean, in the end, it was good for all those seriously thinking of attending Swarthmore as I probably wasn’t going to go in the first place since it didn’t quite have the best opportunities in the field I was pursuing, but… a rejection still stings. Oh well, I’ll just follow the rationale of everyone rejected from Swarthmore in the past 6 years and look optimistically at the path Obama’s taken lol.
