swarthmore: unthinkof questions

Yes. Condescending and flip.

kellymegreener

thank you, thank you, thank you. Yes I want to learn more about swarthmore. If possible from students. Most of the parents' replies sounded very much as if they are living their lives thru their children's. I do not have that illusion and I certainly do not want to live my daughter's life for her. I want advise not advertisement for the school or their children.

wdm, it's funny, because almost every person has told you not to send your daughter to swat...how is that advertising?

And Kelly, please, show me these quotes. Every student I've talked to has loved it, and the work is almost self-driven, not due to immense courseload.

I think wdm and kelly are the same person :)

No question about it.

Not counting aliases, a full 80 of Kelleymegreener's 98 posts on College Confidential are bashing Swarthmore. Exactly two posts on the Yale board, the school Kelleymegreener claims to be attending in the fall. One post adding the name to the EA applicant list and one adding the name to the EA acceptance list.

they're not the same person, but i think my scenario is on the money.

Ms. WDM: I would suggest then that you have your daughter do the investigations, ask the questions and visit Swarthmore. Is she going to Ride the Tide? Is Swarthmore paying for her visit there? Did she go to Discovery Weekend? How did she hear about Swarthmore?

By the way, I think the time that the various people have put into answering your post shows the type of caring community that is Swarthmore. Your questions were taken seriously and you are being treated with respect, for the most part. I'm sure you appreciate this, and that your remark about the many parents who have taken the time to reply was just worded in a roundabout manner. If these parents are not to your liking, perhaps your daughter can try to find out the answers, or else either of you can just find other ways to communicate with people affiliated with Swarthmore.

Good luck to your daughter with her decision.

By the way, Ole Miss is not a joke school. Many fine alums and students. Also very diverse and lots of good profs. Would suggest not condemning any college or university, they all have strengths and weaknesses, doesn't everything?

quote of Ole Miss. no joke. It is from Princeton Review.

Unless Kellymegreener is a female Indian, we are not the same person.

I'm a student.

People shower. There is a reasonable amount of drinking and relatively little in the way of other drugs, but it happens. Nothing serious.

Most students work fairly hard at Swat. That is mainly, imo, because they want to. You can get away with doing relatively little work and pull Bs/Cs, in most classes.

Students discuss politics quite a bit, yes. The campus isn't as radical as I'd like it to be, though. Students are informed, usually very liberal. Environmentalism isn't most people's focus, however.

The school is fairly small. But I don't mind it ... yet. I'm a freshman. I don't know everyone on campus. And unless the person you ****ed off is on your hall, you probably can avoid them.

Ignore KM.
Of course because I like Swat, I'm just here to advertise and I'm a horrible person.

"quote of Ole Miss. no joke. It is from Princeton Review."

Just because a magazine says something, that doesn't mean we need to adopt its attitude.

We actually have no idea who "Kellymegreener" is, and I don't think her ethnicity is relevant.

collegialmom: you a teacher? very strict and like to lecture people!

arador: thank you. I will relay your response to D. At the end is her choice. Women in our country has come thus far to have a choice and I hope she chooses wisely.

waterdragonmom,
Good luck with whatever your daughter chooses. She has many excellent choices. Just so you know, not that many Swarthmore students post on this forum. A number of their parents do. Personally, all my knowledge about Swarthmore comes from my son. When my son is home on break, I try to get him to spend a little time responding to prospective student questions because I do believe that an actual student perspective is the best.

Also, just so you know because you are new to this forum, I understand that you would prefer answers from students, but kellymegreener is not a student at Swarthmore. (S)he is a high school student in New York who claims to have been admitted to Yale this year. (S)he really has no personal knowledge of Swarthmore at all.

collegialmom: before you jump on me about teachers. No slight intended. You just reminded me of nun in my school who brings out the ruler to hit hands with every remark we made. Food tasted bad? 'hit' What do you mean I did not give you homework assignment? 'hit'

momof3sons: thank you for clarifying this. I was totally lost for a bit there. A mom in D's high school suggest I sent her to psychiatrist. Do you think good idea?
