Swarthmore Waitlist Update + Comparison Data

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Swarthmore admitted 20 students from the waitlist for the Class of 2017.

A not-too-big, not-too-small year for college waiting lists

I was one of the 20 admitted off the wait list!

I returned the card saying that I wanted to stay on the wait list within a week of receiving my wait list letter in the mail. Sometime in the next three weeks, I was able to visit Swarthmore again. During an information session, I was able to speak with one of the Assistant Dean of Admissions. I’m not sure if he remembered me, but I did say my name and reiterated how much I wanted to attend. I also wrote a letter to Swarthmore stating briefly exactly why Swarthmore was the best fit for me and what I had accomplished since submitting my application in January, including becoming an Intel STS semifinalist and the first author of a published paper on cancer research. I also had my favorite biology teacher, who has known me for four years, write me an extra recommendation. I don’t know whether Swarthmore actually wanted an extra recommendation, but I knew that this teacher knew my love for biology and how hard I worked in and out of the classroom.

I am looking to double major in biochemistry and history/english at Swarthmore.
If anybody would like me to post my stats, just let me know!

swattie2017: Congratulations! It’s a great story. I’m very happy for you. You wanted this badly and it seems as though you were able to convey it to the college. Best of luck to you in the next 4 years.
