<p>yes, i think you can get in. swarthmore tries very hard to recruit minority students. their acceptance rate for african american students is something like 65 percent. if you apply early decision with a solid sat score, i'd say you'll get in, assuming your essay is excellent.</p>

<p>I'd say that it is still a reach for you, with those SAT scores. I don't know if you have a very good shot at raising them to 2100 (from not even 1600), but if you get into at least the mid 600's all around, I'd say that your chances would go up big time. Not guaranteed, obviously, but your very good academic record and at least decent extracurricular record, plus minority status at a place where it seems highly desirable (as the post above mine suggests), would make you a strong candidate. Especially if your SATs are complete in time and you choose to go for ED.</p>

<p>I agree, your SATs need to go up. Swarthmore is all about getting the most intellectual students they can find. And that SAT score does not bode well. It's a BIG reach.</p>
