Sweating Bullets

After two grueling years of community college, I had a 3.14 GPA however suffered a series of life events that dropped me to a 2.4. I know this is not an excuse for getting 3 F's and a B last semester however even with that semester my 2.4 is still above the minimum 2.0 transfer requirement to Western Illinois University, and was just looking for some form of response that could inform me more of my situation. Also before my last semester tragedy my grades had been mostly A's and B's and a few C's nothing lower. If any more information is needed I would be glad to respond. Thanks everyone!

So you mean you’re trying to transfer in to Western Illinois from a CC? If your GPA is above the requirement, I’d say it really depends what those life circumstances were the last two years. What are your reasons for transfer to Western Illinois?

Yes I am transferring from a CC, the reasons for transferring is due to their excellent Criminal Justice department. Thankyou for the response! I think what is going to happen is I will be accepted to the general liberal arts college which only requires the 2.0 GPA, however will have to wait for the 2.5 before I can start on my Upper level courses for Criminal Justice. If I have met the General Requirements for attending the University would they still say no? Thankyou very much for your help so far!

It seems like you have a pretty good idea of your situation. Because of those Fs, you really do need to communicate your grueling circumstances very well in the transfer essay – thoroughly describe what made you drop from a 3.14 to that 2.4.

It really does not matter if your general requirements are met to attend the university, a college will take you if they view you a valuable contribution to the school.

If this is your dream school, definitely do not hesitate and do apply. With the right essay and recommendation, I think you have a good chance.

I’m actually applying to WIU as well as a transfer! (I dont go to Northwestern –> Username lol)

How many college credits you have? You know if you have less than 24 they go by your high school record. But I think you’ll get in, if I were you I’d send an essay outlining what exactly happened that caused the drop.

Through looking at Western Illinois University’s online page I found they were having a Transfer Admissions Chat help night (Thank Heavens) and I explained my scenario and John stated as long as I have at least a 2.0 im in. We will see if this is a true statement in about a week but thanks everyone for helping me out, Northwestern hopefully I see ya over there!
