Has anyone studied in Sweden ? If so how was you experience in general? did you like it ?
Thanks in advance

I haven’t studied there, but I’ve lived there so I can tell you a few things.

From late spring to early fall it is possibly the most gorgeous place on earth. You never want to be inside. The weather is perfect, the sun is up at almost all hours, and the nature around you is bursting with bucolic beauty, even in the city.

The winter is long, cold, and dark. I only experienced the very beginning of it, and that was plenty cold and dark already. Fika - the transformation of the “coffee break” into a masterpiece art form - is the saving grace of winter. Also, all the interiors are kept super-toasty. Practically every public place has a coatroom where you spend 5 minutes divesting yourself of the many layers you were wearing outside.

However, regardless of the season the Swedes themselves are genial and warm. I at first found friendships a little harder to make there than in the US, but that is because friendship is a more intimate and meaningful status there. Whether with family or friends, Swedes form tight and meaningful circles. Once you are in one or more of those circles, there is a real feeling of coziness and security.

Peanut butter and chili peppers are hard to find, but on the whole you will eat well, and probably healthier than you do at home. The seafood can be absolutely amazing, and even the salmon-in-a-tube stuff is pretty awesome on Wasabrod. I was surprised at myself when I started eating the stuff for breakfast.

Swedes generally speak impeccable English but apologize for its barely-noticeable deficiencies anyway.

Above all, the most important thing to know is that none of these generalizations are universal. It’s a diverse and interesting country with a growing immigrant population and an increasingly non-homogenous political landscape.

I’ve visited over 40 countries, and Sweden remains among my favorite on Earth. If you have the opportunity to go, take it.
