Sweet Briar College, good or bad idea?

We stumbled across SweetBriar College and from we’ve read thus far, there’s a lot that sounds appealing to my daughter, as an ambitious student, looking for a non overwhelming environment with and opportunity to RIDE! She’s a fabulous equestrian and it looks like she’d have an amazing experience. It seems like a place where she can find her niche and create opportunities for academic and personal growth.

My concerns are:

•Longevity, will the college survive?
•Small student body. How much interaction is there with nearby colleges?
•Reputation?
•Financial aid opportunities?

Any parent/student out there with recent experience/insights to share? Any suggestions of LAC for her to look at are welcome. We are in the North East and she’d like to stay within driving distance (VA is about as far as she’d like to go).

For equestrian, Mount Holyoke, Skidmore and Saint Lawrence represent three to consider.

What are her post-college goals?

I’d be concerned about their ability to survive because of their financial instability pre-pandemic. A total student body of about 350 students makes it tiny for an LAC. Still, I’ve heard good things about Sweet Briar and the campus is beautiful. I recommend looking at Mount Holyoke and Marist. Best of luck!

She’s not sure of what she wants to do, one reason I like a LAC that will expose the students to opportunities to explore in the first year/s. I see her as an excellent therapist, educator, working with people…

Thank you!, that’s my concern as well. Thank for the reminder of Marist. My oldest is at MoHo - great school!

Thank you.
Her cousins attended SLU and from taking to them, she feels it may be too much of a pert school and clicky - however, I’m sure most schools can be what you make the experience to be…
