Sweet Briar Student looking into Wesleyan College and Hollins University

Hello,

I am a currently a junior at Sweet Briar and due to the impending closure at the end of the semester, I have to find a new academic institution to call home. So far I have taken an interest in Wesleyan in Ga and Hollins. I am a business major and wanted to know if I could find out some more information on both schools, especially Wesleyan. Which has the better business program, reputation, student life etc…

Hi! I have copied and pasted my response from your other post here for your convenience. Please let me know if you have more questions. Thank you!

Hi jtsmith1! I am writing in reference to your question above. I work at Wesleyan College in the admission office and can speak not only to the strength of our business program, but also to the dynamics of Macon and Wesleyan College in general. I do not feel as though Wesleyan is a distant second when compared to Agnes Scott. It is true that ASC is an amazing school in a vibrant location with a beautiful campus! I could say the same for Wesleyan College though. 100% of our faculty hold the highest degrees in their field, our 200 acre wooded campus is located in the suburbs of North Macon within walking distance to shops, restaurants and the market. In fact, we host a farmer’s market on our campus twice a month! You can find out more about Macon online here: http://www.maconga.org/things-to-do/. Wesleyan has also just finalized the details for our new QEP, which is all about interniships and jobs after grad! Find out more here: http://www.wesleyancollege.edu/studentlife/career/qepexecutivesummary.cfm.

In addition to our location and charm, Wesleyan is significantly less expensive than ASC. Depending on your GPA, we will offer up to $14,000 (75% of tuition) in scholarships to transfer students and our net price is less than half the national average. Wesleyan was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women and we intend to be the last. I encourage you to delve deeper into researching both schools. If you would like more specific information about our Business program, I can have a faculty member contact you directly. Please let me know how I may help you as you make your way through this process.

I visited Wesleyan. It is really conservative, especially compared to Sweet Briar. I was actually shocked at how conservative it was, I guess I’m not used to the center of the bible belt. The town was really small to me, not much seemed to be going on. The buildings and such were noticeably less new/renovated than Agnes Scott. The faculty and students seemed pretty close and the students were all very enthusiastic about the traditions and such. TBH it reminded me of a boarding school. I wouldn’t say the campus was beautiful, I’d probably call it okay. There is pretty nice architecture but not stunning like I found Agnes Scott to be. I can’t comment on the business program as I wasn’t very interested in it! Good luck finding another school, I’d hate to be in the middle of a closure like you!
