It's one step of many but it's a step!

My S received a call from Baldwin Wallace today and confirmed his audition date. S said the BW representative was extremely nice. We'll take a tour in the AM and auditions start at 12:30. I'll post this on the head shot/resume thread too but he asked BW how many head shots/resumes to bring and what the preferred method of attaching them is. BW said at least 2 faculity members will be there but bring 3 to 4 just in case and it didn't matter how he attached them.

9 to go.

Did you have to complete app to schedule?

I remember our Baldwin Wallace audition day fondly from last year. Everyone was so nice and they had a great group of well spoken students who spent lots of time with parents answering questions. Students also led the tour and we even had a nice lunch included. You might want to check the school’s performance schedule as we were able to see an opera the night before my son’s audition which was wonderful.

kategrizz - Yes he did complete the application. It is still pending official transcripts and the guidance counsler recommendation so everything didn’t have to be in to schedule.

Pelky - I will check good idea! Even though BW is approx 3 hrs from here we are still going up the night before so hopefully we can catch a perfomance.

I know last year if you went on a Friday audition you were able to sit in on a masters class. Are they still doing that?

I was told this year by a student that it is Saturday auditions, but I would just check with the school to be safe.

broadway95 - It is a Friday audition but they didn’t mention master class. I’ll tell him to ask. He requested an early date for Wright State because they specified master class on that date, he hasn’t confirmed the date yet. But his app. is in including all attachments so I’m not expecting an issue getting that date.

He’s not thrilled either school is so early but as you guys know it’s really not easy to get 10 in, driving to all of them. He was pretty adamant he visit every school to get a feel for it. So one of them had to be first and it made sense to take advantage of the master class option.

SHWEET!!! Congrats to your son! I know he’ll really crack down on finding monologues now!! I admire him wanting to see every school and worship the ground you walk on for taking him to them. D’s schools are ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!

Too excited look what we’ll be able to catch while we are at BW!

Fall Musical: Carousel
Performance Schedule:
7:30pm on 11/14, 11/15, 11/16, 11/19, 11/20, 11/21, 11/22, 11/23
2:00pm on 11/16, 11/17, 11/23, 11/24

Received audition date confirmation from Wright State today along with academic acceptance and master class schedule.

What a great opportunity for my S - 10AM to 5PM he’ll participate in the following classes:
Acting Power - has to prepare a song and monologue that is he not using for the audtion the next day
Broadway Theatre Dance
Character Through movement
Vocal Building Blocks

We will also get to see their production of Oklahoma.

How wonderful! I sure wish we weren’t so far away so we could visit all the schools.

Enjoy!

Congrats on the academic acceptance. I love the master classes for the constructive feedback!

So far I’ve scheduled auditions at JMU, Point Park and awaiting confirmation from UArts. I’m still working on my Baldwin Wallace academic application and then I’ll schedule that one. Then there’s prescreens and schools that use Common App which is a whole different deal.

@MTMajorCook when you talked to BW did they tell you whether or not to also bring an unofficial transcript or a letter of recommendation?

Also what have others done for schools in general with regards for bringing unofficial transcripts and recommendations? I know some schools explicitly state they want them, but for those that don’t is it sort of a silent understanding they are expected or not? I was planning on bringing at least 1 letter of recommendation to my auditions but I wanted to see what you guys think.

My D always brought them with her just in case. She did use them once or twice at a scheduled audition but found them most needed at Unifeds when she did walkins.

BW didn’t mention to bring copies of transcripts or letters with him. I never even thought to bring them. I haven’t read that on any of the schools websites he applied to…once again thank goodness for this website. I’ll get some copies and put them in his bag just in case.

He’s very excited to take the master classes at Wright State.

FYI - if CCM is on your list FutureMillie. There is an issue with the Common App and CCM. They expect it to be resolved this month. He submitted his application a few weeks ago and he hasn’t heard from CCM yet as far as his login etc. He can’t check his status until this issue is resolved to see which information is pending. I hope it doesn’t impact the audition date he requested.

S is in Cabaret at a local theatre for the next 3 weekends. I’m happy he’s getting this experience and he says the show is really coming together nicely but holy moly could he use that time to work on his college auditions. Cabaret runs through 10/06. I really envy these MT kids and how much they are able to juggle.

MTMajorCook, you said you’ll get to see Wright State’s production of Oklahoma! You can also get in your surrey with a fringe on top and scurry on down to Oakland to the Pittsburgh Playhouse to see Point Park COPA’s production of Oklahoma! from October 17-27. Not too often can you see two college productions of the same show so close together. That could be quite educational. I can’t speak for Wright State, but I’ve heard Point Park’s show (which is being directed by Shirley Jones’ son, Patrick Cassidy) is shaping up nicely.

I must say from a paperwork and logistical perspective, I’m glad we are not going thru the audition/application process again. Once was enough. Good luck to all!

Congrats to all who are getting those audition dates set!!

Just a reminder that coastal Carolina University does offer a fall audition date. This year it is Saturday, November 16. It is an all day affair, including the great master classes in the afternoon and the opportunity to see A Chorus Line. Here’s a description of a typical audition day at CCU in case anyone is interested:

Wishing many broken legs to all!!

CollegeSearch - We planned on seeing Point Park’s as well. My S’s friend is a MT Sophomore at Point Park, she didn’t get a role but we planned to see it. S sees a few Point Park shows a year, mainly their dance performances.

With everything else on his plate to apply/prepare we didn’t think to look up the shows until it was mentioned here. Now we are looking up all the performances and we’ll see what we can everywhere we go.

His other close friend is a Sophomore at CCM, she was cast in CCM’s production of Singing In the Rain. He’s going with her mom to see it the first weekend in November. He LOVES LOVES Gene Kelly, he’s really excited about this show.

It’s always a nice happenstance when your school visits, if you are able to do a visit to a school separate from the audition, fall when the department is doing a show. Or, sometimes schools have shows that are in rehearsal when you visit, even if it hasn’t opened yet. We were able to sit down in the balcony and see part of a rehearsal at one of the schools when we visited and it was in some ways better than seeing the show.

MTMajorCook, who doesn’t love Gene Kelly? He was the man. Speaking of him, PPU’s Oklahoma! cast has at bunch of recent Gene Kelly Award Winners and NHSMTA alums. Singin’ In the Rain will be a cool one to see too.

Scheduled my auditions for Marymount Manhattan, Depaul, Syracuse, and pending confirmation of University at Buffalo!!! Seeing the confirmation messages seem to make it all real (and much scarier). The rest of the schools use the common app, which I’m going to submit by the end of the week to schedule the rest of the auditions. Ahhh so excited that this is all finally happening!
