My son is looking to swim for concordia university in irvine. what can we expect to get in the way of an athletic scholarship

Check the atheletic recruiting board on this site under College Admissions: Specialty Admissions: Athletic Recruiting. My short answer is that Concordia probably does not offer swim scholarships unless they are a division one NCAA school. Check the list of who is D-1, D-2, or D-3 at NCAA.org to see what division they are in and if that division is allowed to offer scholarships. There are limits for how many scholarships can be given out per each team/sport. In non-revenue sports, scholarships are pften split. Say a team offers 5 scholarships; the coach can allocate the 5 scholarships between a number of athletes on the team with some getting more or less of the money. In general, women get more scholarship money than men in non-revenue sports due to the necessity of evening out the dollar distribution between men and women (Title IX Law) and the reality of the amounts of money channeled to the men’s football and basketball (revenue sports) programs.

Concordia is a NAIA school. NAIA does offer athletic scholarships; the team coach/athletic department should be able to provide you with more information (how many scholarships offered, if any, what is covered, etc…)
