I am planning to take the swim test on move-in day. I was wondering if for whatever reason I end up not passing the swim test, what happens then?

Do I have to switch my PE class first semester and take swimming? or

Do I just take swimming second semester? or

Can I just swim on my own and retake the swimming test sometime between now and when I graduate.

I am just confused because Cornell makes it seem like you either pass the swim test or take the class freshman year, but it seems like I remember seeing some posts that say you just have to pass the test or take the class sometime before you can graduate.

I’m interested too ^

if you fail you can take beginning swim whenever I believe just needs to be sometime before you graduate, not 100% positive though since I know how to swim. Also most people take both of their 2 PEs freshmen year which is why most people in beginning swim are freshmen.

btw if you take the test you won’t fail unless you start drowning in the middle or are so out of shape that you give up before finishing 75 yards which isn’t very far. They don’t care about form at all, you just need to make it across.

One of my friends didn’t take the swim test (she doesn’t know how to swim), and took 2 PE’s freshman year, neither of which was swimming. This indicates to me that they don’t really care, as long as you do it before graduating. There was one woman who did the swim test at the men’s location, so I’m guessing she was someone who was doing it late.

Just make it through the 75-yard swim…seriously it’s not that hard, even if you have no idea how to swim.
