Hello! I am an incoming freshman to UChicago (and that's obviously why I'm posting here haha :). I'm a little worried about the swim test seeing as how I'm not a very good swimmer at all! I can float and semi-backstroke, but that's about it. I'm definitely going to take the swim test though. Anybody else out there in the same situation as me? It would be nice to know I'm not the only one!

I don’t know a single person who actually enjoyed the swim test. You can use whatever method you see fit to complete the test. And fortunately there’s also no time limit, so pace yourself.

Thank you Ablearcher for your quick reply! I was thinking: 400 yards is a long way to swim (for me) and seeing as I have basically no swimming ability as it is, would it just make more sense for me to take the swimming class at UChicago? I mean, I would be learning a life skill…

you say you have no swim ability
But you do have time
Time to learn
And it is a great skill -one never know s whne they will need to swim

So good luck and Im sure you will do fine if you put your mind to it

Weird to see this thread. I believe the swim test was eliminated as of the start of the current quarter.

It was an adorable link to a simpler time. But now it’s gone.

Yes, the swimming test was eliminated this year, as well as the general fitness test.

To avoid confusion, the fitness requirement in general is gone (tests and classes).

^^^“It was an adorable link to a simpler time. But now it’s gone.”

When was that - when people actually knew how to swim and not just surf the net?

Swim tests are still required at Columbia and Dartmouth.

The fitness test and swim test has been eliminated? COOOOOOOOOL!!!
