Swim Test

For people who have taken the swim test, is it true that a person has to swim 25 meters freestyle, 25 meters on your back, and then 25 meters anything?

I only know how to do the breast stroke and it would suck if I now have to learn free style and back stroke in such a short time.

"What does the swim test entail?
The test is a 75 yard swim which is three lengths of a 25-yard pool.

You must jump into the deep end feet first, swim the first length on your front, the second on your back, and the third is your choice. You may use any stroke. There is no time limit."

I mean yea, it says that. I went to an arts and science info session and someone asked about it. The lady said, “as long as you get across”

yeah you could even do doggy paddle…as long as you make it across the pool without touching the bottom or the sides…

but you must do at least 1 time on your back…

guess i’ll learn how to swim on my back. youtube, here i come

You don’t actually have to do the swim test to graduate, right?

yeah you must supersizeme…

Awhile back a friend of mine told me that transfer students can graduate without taking it. I wanted to confirm that for myself and, sure enough, it’s true:

“Transfer students entering with 2 semesters of academic credit or more are exempt from the swim test requirement.” [Swim Test - Cornell University](http://swimtest.cornell.edu/)

I’m pretty sure individuals suffering from certain medical conditions are also exempt (after providing proper documentation of the condition, of course).

^It’s true that the transfer students can graduate without taking it. I can’t think of any other circumstances that would make people exempt from this requirement other than those that you just mentioned.

If you can’t pass it, you will have to take 2 Intro swimming PE classes.

If you don’t pass, you will have to take the intro to swim class, at least once. You’re not forced to take two swimming classes.
At any time you think you can pass while taking the class, you ask for the test there. Pass and the rest of your classes can be considered a break from doing anything.

If you can’t swim on your back because your leg sinks, people say that pulling your head back into the water so that the water line meets your ears helps you float, and have your hips just float.

It is really casual too, they tell you that you have to go across on your front and then return on your back, so you can swim however you like, as long as you make it across. If you aren’t confident that you can do it, but still want to try, you can swim in an outer lane and they have people on the edges watching you who can help you get out if you decide to stop in the middle of it.
