Any club/high school swimmers here? If so, a few questions:

How long have you been swimming for?
Do you attend any major competitions such as Junior Nationals, Sectionals, JO's, or AA's?
What is your best stroke? Your 100 and 200 times?
Do you prefer sprints, middle distance, or distance?
How your school/swimming/life balance?

I'm curious about a few rumors that I've heard, such as high school swimmers are slow, or don't have a social life, or that smart people tend to be breaststrokers (not sure where that one originated).

Used to, like a really long time ago, for three years. Therefore my times are really crappy and not really worth sharing. I really liked backstroke and butterfly, and they were actually my faster strokes. I never swam 200s though. I was more of a sprinter.

Sorta kinda used to, but never tried out for the swim team. I really don’t know my times, but I swam the freestyle and breaststroke mostly, and I think if I had kept doing it I would have had some really good times.

None of those rumors are true. I know a kid who’s one of the most popular, has a very good GPA, and has the best times (seriously, they call him the next Michael Phelps) in the freestyle.

I swim for a club, and have done since I was 8 :)

I got to regionals for the South East for the last 2 years, I don’t know what the equivalent is.
Best stroke is fs, best distance 400m then 800m then 50m. We only do metres so my times won’t be comparable.
As for swim/life balance, I don’t have one. I just swim when I have to and then do everything else. There’s no planning or organisation involved. I cut my hours down from 12 to 3 a week in September, but recently picked it up to 7 because I missed it so much!

In my experience, the breaststrokers seem to be the camp ones, not the smart ones XD

EI started swimming competitively in high school. I did some basic swimming lessons beforehand, though. I do summer league now, though. Club swim on and off based on my workload.
Haven’t gone to any competitions outside of the high school level competitions.
I prefer distance swimming. Don’t remember all my times off the top of my head, though .
My swim team is actually full of extremely popular club swimmers, so I suppose that breaks the stereotype.

Let’s see…100 Back was somewhere around 1:03:32, 200 IM was 2:19:43, and 200 Free was 1:59:03.
Only ones that I’ve done well in competitively.

Ah, really? For girls, here, the swim season was during the fall, from August to November.
For guys, it was during the winter. State meet was just a week ago.
