i think it depends on what your event is, but for the most part i think its better to do some slowly with no rest and then end with some sprints with rest in between.

yeah, definitely depends on event...butterfly is EXTREMELY tiring, whereas breaststroke is hailed as the 'stranded in the ocean' stroke--in other words, you can do it for EVER and not get tired, if you're going slowly enough.

possibly you should practice more. At 13, competitive swimmers swam mainly at clubs year round and practices were probably 3 hrs every morning from monday - saturday with dryland in the afternoons accompanied by 3 afternoon swim practices a week at 2 hrs long. Morning practices were usually long course with the average practice being 5,000-6,000 meters, afternoons being short course with between 3,500 and 6,000 yards

3 hours every morning? Don't they have school?

I did a 50 in :25 today. :)

What kind of stuff do you do for dryland or whatever... ?lol

"I did a 50 in :25 today."

What are you, olympics swimmer or something?

how do you go from a 50 in 33 seconds to a 50 in 25 seconds?

different strokes perhaps?

I had someone else time me this time. Usually I hit the stop watch when I start and when I finish. It cuts off a few seconds when someone else does it. lol.

My breathing was better this time and I had much more stamina.

southpasadena, could you answer my questions, please?

definitly should be training more... here age group swimmers swim two adn a half hours five days a week...with optional dryland. a 33 second 50 is pretty good if you haven't been training, but it will take quite a lot to drop that down much.

dryland includes core movement and strenghtening, ie abs, running with distance and springs (uphill), use of medicine balls for speed training including biceps triceps and core again. Also weights, but at that age it was optional

question for any other polo players out there:

do you ever get tired of swimming, bc I personally hate swimming, but I gotta swim to play polo

I just find swimming so boring and I cant stand going on and on w/out talking to anyone for whatever time we have to do

can anyone relate to that, or is it just me?
:D :D :D :D :D

I can relate.

I used to not like swimming at all, but then I'm like... I could learn to like this sport. So I just tried to enjoy the mandatory swim class as much as I could, and before I knew it, I was really good at it. I just wanted to keep getting better and better, and I did. Then I joined a swim club and the school swim team. :)

You can learn to enjoy it...

I could probably do some of the dryland stuff. I do a lot of crunches, pushups, and situps everyday. I guess I could run too. I'll probably start doing that. Thanks.

i'm playing a sport i hate to play a sport i love...it's worth it, though

Polo is the best sport in the world...too bad its not broadcasted on TV

Your only 13 and on this collegecondifential website. What is wrong with you!? Go out and do something.
