Hi guys, I am a swimmer applying for the 2015-2016 year. I have noticed that there are many swimming applicants so I created this page to discuss various swimming related things. ie. Times, emails from coaches, swim teams, year round vs seasonal swimming.
I’m a swimmer! And @thelittleswimmer is too.
I’ve had correspondence with many of my schools.
I think this might be moved to the Cafe, btw.
My main event is the 100 Back. What are all of yours?
Yep I’m a swimmer too! Best stroke is breast
My D is also a breast stroker, back and IMer, swims year round for a strong team. Also pretty good at another sport. Her times are a good fit for Varsity at her no. 1. Been in touch with coaching staff at that school.
Is there a way to swim year round at boarding school? Most schools only seem to have one season for swimming.
@swimmingman5 I think you can swim in clubs that are near your campus. Also, did any of the coaches specifically said they wrote your name for the recruiting list? I just want to know which schools actually tells you directly about that.
Depends on the school, but some schools that host a year round community team on campus will allow for year round swimming to count for three season sport. I got the impression that it depends on the circumstances, but if you are a certain level, it is allowed. My D has another sport, so will try to work that in somehow (weekends?) Also is interested in exploring new sports when not in swim season.
For the schools I am applying to, when I asked about year-round training, they advised me to try another sport since they didn’t offer year-round training. No idea about the swim teams nearby.
I can’t remember where, but I think some schools have a “Free Swim” period where students can use the pool. I’m not entirely sure though.
Peddie, Mercersburg, Bolles School, and Baylor are 4 schools that have year round swimming as part of a club on campus. Most schools though want students to try different sports for the other seasons.
I’m also a swimmer, my favorite stroke is backstroke. also, following up on @catinthehat579, i know that the Bolles school is really well known for a good swimming program. I knew someone who went there who qualified for the olympic trials.
Do you guys want to share times?
Sure. Here are mine. Mine are in Meters so for all you yard swimmers out there subtract 2-4 seconds per 50 or go to http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/results/conversions.asp

It’s my favorite event. ;).

If you haven’t already, log onto swimming world prep school directory to see the schools who offer competitive swim programs. I am pretty sure the head coach of The Bolles School swim has left for another school.
Choate also has a full time swim program under a community team. It helps to open the schools curriculum guide.
He left to coach the Singapore national team.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to post exact times because of AOs (assuming that these are exact times). Instead, I suggest that you either PM the times or post approximated/general times.
@thelittleswimmer Your probably right, but I don’t think any AOs will recognize me because swimming is not my main hook plus my times won’t stand out as they are not very fast.
