<p>Can anyone help? Junior D is an A swimmer on a state champ HS team. Swims year round club 25+ hours a week. Her times are comparable to what we see on the LAC web sites (e.g. she would have placed top 2 in most of the heats listed in results). She really wants a larger school and dreams of Cornell, Columbia, or Yale based on visits. Her academic stats are at or over 75th percentile for those schools. Alas, she is not recruitable DI or Ivy. How hard is it to walk on the schools mentioned? Yale seems the most competitive program, but I would imagine there are some hard working walk ons on the team. Late start to the sport with times improving a lot each season. She wants to get her times down this summer before contacting any coaches. Thanks in advance for your help.</p>

<p>I would be amazed if the swim team does not take walk-ons … they need way more swimmers than they can recruit … there is an easy way to find out; email the coaches at the schools in question and ask. To get an idea of how your daughter might fit in check the rosters on the college’s web pages; they typically provide some background on the athletes. The HS (and club?) coaches could be a big help helping your daughter know where she fits in at the college leve.</p>
