Swimming test~

Hey sexy's one of the reasons I'm considering Cornell as a Top Choice! LOL

wow why is this swim test scaring me. i'm not even going to cornell or anything. do you guys know which other ivies they have this test at? i better start swimming more. i think i would die swimming one lap. and i can't even tread water properly. but then again, i shouldn't get too ahead of myself. i'm only a hs senior -____-

i just got done with my frosh year and still avoiding the swim test :<

Use prescription swim goggles for those who have bad eyesight.

do they grade based on effort or whether u pass test at the end or not? if its test imma fail

Quick question, transfer students who want to take a PE class, need to sign up for the swim test online? Or do they sign up when they arrive at Cornell?

why is this such a big deal? seriously-just jump in a pool, swim to the other side, get out-and you pass

this was just funny to read.

"yes, those who don't have good form have to take a remedial swim class and get a 0.5 grade point penalty from their first semester."

this is absolutely not true! in fact, i've spoken with university officials and was told to disregard such nonsense!

I think that someone was making an unsuccessful attempt at humor, mrsopresident.

Those who fail the swim test (or who have the good sense not to attempt it since they know they cannot pass) must take Beginning Swimming as their PE course. If, at the end of two semesters of the course, they still cannot pass the swim test, they graduate anyway. The people at Cornell figure that if they can't teach a person to swim in two semesters, it's Cornell's fault, not the student's.

People who cannot take the swim test or swim course for medical, religious, or other legitimate reasons can be exempted from it, but some of them have to take a Fitness or First Aid course instead.

"Good form" has nothing to do with it. The swim test (which my daughter took last Friday) consists of jumping into deep water, swimming one length of the pool on your front, one length on your back, and one length any way you want. Form doesn't count (trust me on this; my daughter's backstroke form is appalling), and you can choose which strokes you use.

My daughter took the test this morning. She is an elite gymnast. She said the test was easy. The last lap was tiring but she passed. More a test of endurance than technique for your average swimmer.

i'm an elite lazy-sit-on-your-ass-all-day and i didnt find it hard at all...

It's the easiest test to pass at Cornell ;-)

fd36- Go for it!

just to let you guys know you can take the class/test senior year as long as its before graduation

i know because im applying there this year (live locally) and a really good friend's mom teaches the beginning swimming class- (norberg)

also i have struggled to learn swimming of any kind as a kid parents got me a private swimming coach still couldnt do it

hope she can help me

i almost failed.

Is it only for the college of A&S?

I think it'll be fun.

love to swim, this seems like an awesome opportunity...if I get in...

I took the Cornell swim test in 1976, sans swim suit, like all other males in those days. I had taken a two-week swim class when I was about eleven years old, and missed the second week due to illness. My rudimentary skills were sufficient for passing the test.

Cornell required four semesters of P.E. for people who matriculated in 1976; they reduced that to two semesters for those who matriculated the following year. I had completed just one semester when I transferred to Stanford, and thus managed to skip the final three semesters.

I might have become a more accomplished bowler, though, had I stayed at Cornell.

omg this trend is hilarious......

"I usually drown when I swim... where there be any lifeguards?"

........but its not that funny if i take the test after i get admitted.....

IF IM ADMITTED...... PLZ ACCEPT ME IM WILLING TO DO ANYTHING
