how difficult is the swimming test at cornell?
is it a timed swim?
a length (2 miles?) swim???

Hahaa no its not 2 miles. Its like 75 meters. That's it. They crowd you in a room with like 500 people, line you up, send you through like 3 laps of the pool, and off you go. Its not timed, and unless you have never swam before its nothing worth worrying (or even thinking) about.

even if your backstroke might look ridiculous? lol, i mean, i never swim backstroke, use to when i was in lessons, but i am a strong, frequent swimmer. Just never do the backstroke, lol.

Oh man, you can't possibly look ridiculous compared to me, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the backstroke. I might look like a total spaz, but I'll deal as long as I stay afloat for 3 laps! :)

i don't really care, it's way too short, i am just worrying about getting in now lol
thx everyone :)

i can't swim! looks like i'll have to learn...

toronto eh candi? im in st. catharines. what college u going to? and are u male/female?

i'm guessing female...could be wrong. Yeah swim test is more of a "can you swim" test than a "how well do you swim" test

ye im not worried, cuz i can stay afloat and swim backstroke, just i never do , so id probably look bad, maybe even go crooked, but im a pretty strong swimmer, both under and front crawl, lol, also , last summer (and probably s his summer) i swam like at least 4days a week for hours each day in my cousins pool, I LOVE SWIMMING

i am from toronto as well :)
this is not good, i don't like competitions :(

way to get into an ivy, newbyreborn, haha.

dont worry its not a comp. if it were a comp they'd make all the freshmen race haha

precisely sparticus, that's what i try to do with my hamsters, but Gary (my orange hamster gained 15 grams) and he is so slow now :(
no fun!!!

martinez - i applied to arts and sciences what about you? and sparticus800 is right :) i'm female

the candi gave it away...

candi: im in engineering physics. what's your program? Not too many ppl from around here go to the US for school eh. How come your going to cornell? athlete? or other? Im going to be a student athlete, but I always knew I wanted to go to the states for school, and IVY league I mean come on! lol

martinez - i will hopefully be an economics major...yeah, NONE of my friends have applied to school in the US so its kinda scary...but just like you said, i've always wanted to go to school in the states...its always been my childhood dream and hopefully everything will work out. no, i'm not an athlete and yup, i only applied to really good ivy schools cuz otherwise my parents would want me to stay in ontario. are you a recruited athlete? for what sport?

The test is not that bad. Its three lengths (25m a length I think). The first has to be on your front, the second on your back, and the third anyway you like it. They don't care what your stroke looks like (you can doggy paddle if you like) and there is no time limit. The thing that gets most ppl is that you have to jump into 14 ft (and your head has to go underwater) before you actually start the laps. If you can't do this, don't worry. Just take begininng swim IN THE FALL (so you won't freeze you ass off) and you will pass the test guaranteed. They won't let you fail. Don't be a stupid senior who gets stuck in beginning swim during your last semester with a bunch of freshman.

does it have to be like a swimmers dive into the pool or can u just do like a cannonball or something

candi- ye student athlete, for squash. i ONLY applied to cornell, and i mean ONLY school. are you in the myspace group? u should be, myspace.com and just search around for cornell class of 2009 (not cornell) well, ttyl

actually it can't be a dive at all; you have to jump feet first
