Swimming Validation test parameters

what does it take to validate the swimming requirement so as a plebe one would not have to take the swimming class?
Strokes, Times, etc???

3:30 validation for the 200. jump off the 5 m. I don't see the strokes for breaststroke and crawl on the validation paper. But I think it's like 10 is the max and 6 is a 100.

strokes per length and assuming a 25 meter pool length? they are going for efficency of stroke right?

If you validate you don't have to do the stroke tests. Otherwise you do.

One thing to realize with swimming....

If you meet the validation time, then you get an 80% for the class (faster swim = better grade).

However, the swim classes are made up of stroke/efficiency tests and the 200 meter swim.

The 200 meter swim is weighted 50% and the summation of the stroke/efficiency exams is 50%. The jump is pass/fail.

So, say MIDN #1 validated at 3:30 = 80% for class
MIDN #2 swims 3:30 (decides not to validate) and gets 100% and a 100% on the stroke/efficiency tests and then swims 3:30 (maybe faster?) on the 200m swim. Now you are looking at an "A" instead of a "B" for the class.

So whats the big deal? I get an "A" for the class instead of a "B". Well your PE grade for the semester is based 2/3 on your PE class and 1/3 on the PRT.

However, the decision is up to you....just giving you a look at all of the options.

another scenario,
you do the swim in 3:10,get an A dont have the class and have more time to study plebe chem which is a killer.

Or you accept the B because you would rather not walk from Chauvenet to LeJeune and change then to Michelson once a week every week.

got the word that my son validated swimming today. not a surprise though, he swam in h.s.
