Are there any guidelines or requirements for a candidate's swimming skills? What is expected when they arrive for Indoctrination?
Thank you.

Fourth classmen must demonstrate the capability of swimming 100 yards using two basic strokes & 15 minutes of flotation. For those who are non-swimmers, its a pretty good idea to get in some pool time before going in. I will add that many kids end up in remedial swimming classes. So if you end up there, dont beat yourself up too badly about it because you wont be alone.

as far as swimming, that's the minimum for indoc, but later on, you must show competancy at distance swimming and maximum stroke efficiency. if your kid isn't a strong swimmer, i'd say find a private swim instructor and get at least 4-5 lessons in. it'll only help.

And sometimes, you can look good while training:

this has nothing to do with swimming, but during "training" you can also look pretty silly

love the video, my son put that on his facebook or myspace...lol not sure which one.

Thank you for the information on the swim requirements--AND for the fun our family had watching the videos! We have lined up some lessons; the instructor wants to know if the fifteen minutes of flotation has to be in a certain position, or can they switch from front to back? Thanks again.

for the swim, you have to do vertical, supine (on your back), and survival floating. the biggest issue i've seen people have is being uncomfortable in the water, thus they fight to keep their head out and struggle really bad. comfort in deep water is key.
