Does anyone know where the kids can get the swine flu shot on campus? We called over the weekend but were unable to find out.

From the school’s H1N1 Preparedness document:

Student and parents who have questions may contact the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs: (213) 740-2421 or vpstuaff@usc.edu.

I called that number and a few other sources a week or two ago and they said it wasn’t available on campus yet but that they hoped to have it in time for a free inoculation day in early November. Assuming they get an adequate supply, it will be available thereafter for a fee at the health center and also possibly at the Pharmacy.

Please let us know what you learn.

H1N1 clinics will be happening on campus at the Lyon center for two days next week. The 3rd and 4th of November from 9am to 3pm. See the following link for more information. These will be distributed free!

Thank you Nikara, I’ve sent that to my daughter.

New flu updates were just emailed to students. Here is the info:

(1) Priority Target Groups to Receive Vaccinations
Due to limited supplies of vaccine, upon the recommendation of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the LA County Department of Public Health, we, the County, and many other health care institutions are screening those who ask for the vaccine and are making inoculations available only to individuals who fall into one of the priority target groups listed below:

· Pregnant women
· People living with or caring for infants under 6 months of age
· Emergency medical services personnel and health care workers
· Children and young adults from 6 months through 24 years
· People aged 25 through 64 years with chronic medical conditions

(2) Students
USC University Park Health Center is following the above recommendations to offer vaccines to eligible students who fall under one or more of the priority groups.

H1N1 Vaccine: Limited availability to priority target group students at the University Park Health Center [$10 cost]
Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Limited availability to priority target group students at the University Park Health Center [$25 cost]

Students who fall in one or more of the priority target groups may obtain their vaccination during the following Immunization Clinic hours:

Mondays, Tuesdays [8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-4:30 p.m.]
Wednesdays [9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m. ]

(4) Other Resources

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is conducting a number of free influenza vaccination outreach events. These events are open to the general public, and authorities will be screening those who come to these events and targeting only individuals who fall into one of the priority target groups listed above. One such public event is scheduled on the USC University Park Campus on November 3rd and 4th. The event will take place in the Lyon University Center between the hours of 8:30am and 3:30pm both days, while supplies last.

This outreach has been advertised publicly outside of USC and large numbers of people are expected to respond, resulting in long lines.
