switch 2 cog. sci?

okay. so i am officially a triton and I am entering as a Mathematics (Applied) major. but, I'm wondering if it's possible to switch from math to cognitive science this early in the game...

eh.. all i've heard of Cog sci from the admit day is that it seems to be a cool major (psych with some comp sci thrown in[?]) and it seems to be a bit hard.

would switching to this major be a good idea? (if it's even possible?)

as long as the major isn't impacted it shouldn't be a problem...but i don't know if it is impacted or not

i doubt it, cuz the professor at the admit day said it was a "new program" or something and that sd's the first in the nation to have this program.. :/

Cog Sci is REALLY interesting. Inquire whether or not COGS 1 is a GE in your college, and take it as an intro course to see if you like it. =D

Cogsci isn't really that new, but UCSD was the first to have it, yes. And actually, I wouldn't recommend taking COGS1, because that class is pretty crappy and hard to study for. It's just guest lecturers every week and none of the talks are in any way chronological or related. It's really disjointed and it attempts to provide a really general overview of cogsci, but instead it gives you like 20 different and way too specific and complex talks about particular subjects/research in cogsci, and as a result, it's difficult to study for the quizzes/midterm/final. I would take COGS11 - it's easy AND really interesting. Take it with Mary Boyle, she's awesome.

hmm.. but, don't i have to take certain intro cogsci courses to major in it? which classes should i take? :P

Yes, but if you want to see if it's interesting first, I don't think COGS1 will give you a good idea of how interesting it actually is because of how badly and haphazardly the class is arranged.

hmm... do i have to take cogs1?

I agree. You may have to take a couple of classes since COGS1 is so weirdly structure....but you might discover a focus of interest if one of the lecture particularly sticks out to you.
