switch colleges in NYU, can't find anything about this on site

It says on site to apply to college of arts and sciences if you dont know what you want to major in and then switch to college you want to major in once you decide if you are accepted to NYU...so can you apply to CAS and if you get in transfer to Stern once you are accepted to CAS if you want to study business? once you are accepted in a different college in NYU can you even transfer to stern for undergraudate business or are you locked out of it?

you can transfer, but stern is really competetive to transfer into. it would be easier to transfer from stern to cas.

yes obviously it would be easy to transfer out of stern...do you have any idea what the percentage is or how many students actually complete the transfer or anything?

Quoting Businessweek:

121 internal candidates (admitted and denied) sought full-time admission to the business program for the 2006-2007 academic year. 49% were admitted to the program.

I've heard it's difficult, though... like, more difficult than BW says, but whatever.

thats really not that bad if you think about it though, 60 out of 121 or so, about 50 percent its much better than i thought you were going to say i thought it'd be along the lines of less than 10 percent like 10-20 students

Where on NYU's website does it say "apply to college of arts and sciences if you dont know what you want to major in and then switch to college you want to major in once you decide if you are accepted to NYU"?

The answer to your question is no, you cannot apply to CAS and then switch to Stern once you're accepted. You may only apply to transfer internally after one year. Internal transfers to Stern are rare and if you can't get into Stern by applying as a freshman, it's unlikely you'll get in through an internal transfer. NYU reps always tell you that if you want Stern, apply to Stern as a freshman and don't try to get in 'through the backdoor'.

i am planning on applying to stern as a freshman, i actually was just wondering if there were people who went in through the back door simply because i had read on the site that they say if you are unsure then apply to CAS

If you call transferring to Stern internally 'going through the back door', then yes, of course it happens. However, everyone I know who did so successfully did it more because they tried CAS for a year and didn't like it - none of my 3 friends had planned on doing it when they entered NYU.

They probably say to apply to CAS if you're unsure because that has the widest range of majors.

Apply for Stern. You're automatically in consideration for CAS if you don't get into the school of your choice.

stressed out, that is absolutely not true. If you apply to Stern and don't get in, you are not considered for CAS.

^^

I meant that he can put down CAS as his 2nd choice. That way, if he doesn't get into Stern, he'll be considered for CAS.

I know what you meant, and that's what I'm telling you is absolutely not true. NYU only allows you to apply to one school/college and if you're rejected from that college, you are not considered for another. You would have to wait a year and then reapply. There is no 2nd choice option at NYU.

that's strange.. i'm sorry for the confusion.

My friend got into CAS when he checked Stern on his application.. he wasn't sure how that happened either. We both assumed he didn't make it into Stern.

stressed0ut, maybe he checked the wrong box? Or maybe NYU did something weird during the application process? Because I remember we could only check one this year...

do i have to pay double tuition if i want to major/minor outside of my school? Tisch, minor/major at CAS.

No, you just pay full-time tuition as long as you're taking 12-18 credits. Why would you pay double tuition?

that would be ridiculous, single tuition is already pretty high!

lol. I didn't mean double tuition, but like extra or something. My mommy said that no question is a dumb question. lol. Thanks guys.

I applied for Steinhardt's mass media & communications but NYU accidently sorted me into the Stern pile. The lady told me that it's probably because I mentioned a lot about business on my application.

I thought that was really weird... thank God I called.
