My child told to apply for Ag Business and then switch to Computer Engineering after starts freshman year. I thought it was hard to switch majors at SLO

Yes it is difficult to switch majors at Cal Poly. First of all, its a hassle enough to switch majors within the same college, especially for the college of engineering. Switching requires, 1) You maintain a certain GPA, I believe most engineering majors are 2.5-3 and 2) fulfill some classes that are required for certain majors for switching. On top of that you'll be reviewed and see if your approved to switch.

On top of that 8 units you take must be towards your major. So fulfilling the 8 units to your major, while taking classes required to switch can set you back up to a year or more from graduating

thanks for the info

hey futureholds, i gotta say - thats a really iffy process. i would say that if your child got into ag business, but not for cs, it would be extremely hard for him/her to survive in that sort of a courseload. that's assuming that it would be possible to transfer.

well, whatever you choose to do, good luck!
